ROCKY S ITALY Siena Donatello s Feast of Herod

In 1427, Donatello was commissioned by the Opera of the Baptistry of Siena to produce a bronze relief sculpture for the city’s main baptismal font in Siena Baptistry, where it is still located today. Donatello’s bronze panel depicts the moment that the Baptist’s severed head is presented to King Herod and demonstrates Donatello’s mastery of linear perspective and drama.
