Donatello gets a pretty bad rap. You know, he's the least hyped ninja turtle,
and also probably the least hyped renaissance painter,
often being overshadowed by many other well-known artists such as Leonardo da Vinci.
But little do people know, Donatello is actually the coolest and best sculptor of the renaissance.
Born around 1386, Donato di Nicolo di Betto Bardi, otherwise known as Donatello,
focused mainly on realism and created a break from the boring, un-lifelike sculptures that
had plagued the middle ages. For example, one of his most famous works, Saint Mark,
was completed in 1413, and it can still be viewed today.
But Saint Mark wasn't the only famous sculpture that he made,
he made plenty of others, such as the Feast of Harad.
Another famous sculpture included Jerdith and Hollow Ferns.
These three beautiful sculptures are 100% proof that Donatello is a terrific
sculptor, and he did not deserve to be overshadowed by those other artists and
sculptors of the renaissance, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael.
And to prove to you, if you're not 100% convinced, I'm going to leave you with a
terrific compilation of pictures of his other works, and you can be truly captivated,
like I was, seeing these beautiful pieces of woodwork and stonework and marblework.
It's just terrific.
So
