Elon Musk officially announced NEW LAUNCH DATE for first Starship V3 Launch!
Right after Booster 19 wrapped up its successful static fire, Elon Musk dropped the launch date for Starship Flight 12 — and it caught a lot of people off guard. For many, it felt like this one was coming sooner than expected. So, when exactly is Flight 12 happening? Let’s dive in.
After putting Ship 39 through some really tough testing at the Massey test site, the vehicle has officially passed all its checks and was rolled back early to Mega Bay 2.Engineers are now pulling out every bit of telemetry data from that static fire — things like combustion chamber temperatures, fuel line pressures, the performance of each individual Raptor engine, and how the cooling system handled everything. Every single second of that burn generates tens of thousands of data points. The team has to go through them one by one to make sure nothing looks even slightly off. If they spot anything unusual, like a tiny crack on a valve line, they’ll send the repair crew in immediately.

This is a big deal because the next flight won’t just be another test hop. It’s a major step forward in Starship’s development — the kind of mission that starts pushing the vehicle toward the Moon and eventually Mars, not just staying in low Earth orbit.Over on the booster side, Booster 19 also just completed its powerful static fire with all 33 of the new Raptor 3 engines. The burn only lasted about three seconds, which is shorter than a typical full-duration test that usually runs around ten seconds. The reason?
These new engines are significantly more powerful, and the noise levels were much higher compared to the previous Booster 15 with the V2 version. SpaceX likely kept it short to avoid disturbing the local community too much. Even so, the test was still very useful. What’s really impressive is how quickly they loaded the propellants beforehand. They filled around 2,500 tons of liquid oxygen and several dozen tons of liquid methane in just 35 minutes. That kind of rapid tanking speed is incredible and shows how much the ground systems have improved.SpaceX has confirmed that the test went well with no issues found. Booster 19 has now been lifted and rolled back to Mega Bay 1 as of the afternoon of the 17th for further inspections and processing. And honestly… seeing it up close like that, you can’t help but notice—it’s absolutely massive. And yeah… it looks stunning.

But here’s the interesting part. While Booster 19 was still sitting proudly on the Orbital Launch Mount at Pad 2 — not even lifted onto the transport stand yet — Elon Musk already dropped the new launch timeline on X.He posted: “Starship V3 booster and ship will be ready for their first test flight in a few weeks.”Now, this is actually the fourth time he’s given a timeline for this flight, so some people might roll their eyes and say it’s not very credible anymore. But to be fair, this time feels different from the previous ones.In the past, he usually said “in 4 to 6 weeks.” This time, he simply said “once both vehicles are ready.” Right now, the team is just finishing up some final touches: installing high-quality cameras and upgrading the Starlink system so they can livestream the launch in full HD.That’s actually a pretty cool detail. Not every spacecraft gets this kind of treatment.
For example, NASA’s Orion capsule still has noticeably lower video quality during its livestreams, and there have even been cases where the stream froze with the infamous blue screen of death, cutting off viewers mid-mission. Anyway, I’m getting a bit off topic here. The bottom line is: the current target is still set for sometime before the 15th of next month. Hopefully it lands in the first week of May.
