Hey guys, welcome to my channel today
We're making some high fiber rice recipes because I love white rice, right?
But white rice doesn't really have a lot of protein or a lot of fiber, which is fine
It's delicious
But sometimes I want some fiber and I want some protein because me I eat rice like every day when you add these things
It's gonna be much more nourishing fiber protein more vitamins minerals all the things and this is perfect for people that have diabetes
Because you're adding more fiber and protein to this grain and it's going to affect you much less than regular white rice
So it's a win-win in all situations. You can customize it however you want
So i'm going to give you guys three recipes of high fiber rice that is perfect for any meal
honestly
It has changed the game for me because I used to not
Eat a lot of fiber and this is one of the first things I did to increase my fiber intake and it definitely helped
So I hope it helps you guys out
Let me know what you want to see next subscribe for more videos like this and I hope you guys enjoy
I'll see you in the next one. Let's start out with this gorgeous multi-grain rice
We're using green lentils which adds an extra 18 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber per half cup
This tri-color quinoa that adds an extra 10 grams of fiber and 12 grams of protein and whatever white rice you prefer
I love jasmine rice, but you can use basmati or any short grain rice you like now
This recipe is pretty straightforward and easy just measure and sort your lentils
Make sure there's no crazy things in there and you want to soak them for at least 30 minutes for me personally
I find that soaking them for at least one hour is the sweet spot
The longer you soak them the easier it's going to cook in the rice cooker
One thing to mention is you can change these ratios if you like
I'm using one cup white rice and then half cup of the other two, but you can use you know
One cup lentils and half cup white rice, whatever you like for the quinoa
Make sure you rinse it off, of course
But I find that if you soak it
It definitely tastes better because a lot of people complain about the taste of quinoa like it's bitter or something soaking
It will definitely help with that
So if you do not like quinoa try soaking it for at least 20 minutes, it'll definitely help
This is totally optional, but you can use chicken stock veggie stock to season the rice
I love using this one, but sometimes I don't use any seasonings. I just have a plain clear canvas
So whatever I put on top of the rice won't clash, but sometimes I do add some seasonings
This is the aftermath of me soaking the lentils for at least an hour and you see how they swelled up
This will definitely help with the cook time and make it much quicker as for the rice cooker
This one is super small. It is so cute and it's perfect for me
But I can understand it might be too small for most people or most families
I bought this so long ago. I think it's a two cup or a three cup rice cooker
If you want though, i'll have the link in the description. Let me know in the comments
Do you guys prefer a sticky rice texture or a fluffier rice texture?
I love fluffy so I add a little bit less water. I added about two
cups of the stock
But if you want more of a sticky rice texture add about two and a half cups to three cups of water
But this is the perfect texture for me
Sometimes I have this for breakfast with the egg on top
You can have this for lunch with the salad or have it for dinner as a side whatever you like
By the way, the quinoa makes this a complete protein
So really you can have this on your own and it'll be a meal, but I hope you enjoy
Next we have a stove top recipe for people that do not have a rice cooker
This one is barley and white rice
But this recipe you can definitely make in a rice cooker if you have like a multi-grain option
Or you have a fancy rice cooker, but mine is so simple. I haven't tried it out yet
So the rice and the barley i'm using pearl barley. They have different cook times. So i'm going to kind of cook them separately
Think about like this i'm going to give the barley a head start then add the rice and then cook together
Don't be like me though. I got so distracted by filming
I forgot to rinse the barley and you see here how cloudy it is
No, you do not want that. So make sure you rinse the barley. I just did, you know, redo and rinsed it out
I'm doing one cup of the barley and then two cups of the water bring to a boil
Then you're going to reduce the heat and cook that for about 20 to 30 minutes again totally optional, but i'm seasoning it with this again
It's my favorite thing on earth right now
But definitely you can do plain you don't have to season it if you don't like
If you didn't know one cup of uncooked pearl barley adds about 30 grams of fiber
Also, it adds an interesting texture to the rice that I just love
But if you haven't had pearl barley definitely try it out when the barley is almost done about 20-30 minutes
Add the right rice and add an extra cup of water
Then just cover and wait for the right rice to finish cooking another 20 minutes and then it's pretty much all done
One thing I love to do is to add frozen veggies to this so you can add frozen peas frozen mixed veggies
You can add frozen mushrooms, whatever you like, but this is the perfect canvas to add anything
Another good thing to do is to let the rice cool off before you eat it
This creates something called resistant starch
Let me know if you want to see a video going deeper into resistant starch
But basically it's just overall better for your gut and your overall health
And lastly we have this beauty just look at how gorgeous it is
I think this one's my favorite one all that you're going to need is purple rice black lentils and frozen green peas
And bright rice as well
If you didn't know purple rice has more antioxidants than blueberries and we all know blueberries are like the antioxidant powerhouse
The black lentils we're using about a half a cup
It's going to add 10 grams of fiber
The frozen green peas are going to add an extra 5 grams of fiber for half of a cup
But if you want more fiber just add a full cup
So these black lentils they specifically say you do not have to soak them
And honestly it pans out because I haven't soaked them in my past recipes and it worked out
I love lentils and they are very rich in iron and potassium magnesium
Fiber protein and when you add it to rice it helps with the glycemic impact
So it will not affect your blood sugar as much the ratios i'm using is half a cup of the purple rice
Half cup of the black lentils half cup of the ripe rice and then half a cup of the frozen green peas
But again, feel free to change the ratios to your liking
You could do one cup of the purple rice and one cup of the green peas. Whatever you like. It all works
My rice cooker is very basic
So if you have a fancier one and it has a multigrain or brown rice setting use that and it'll definitely help
I'm using about two cups of water
I'm filling the water to the two cup line for the white rice section if you can see
And that gave me the perfect texture and that's it
I also find that even when it's done leave it in there for an extra 10 minutes to keep steaming
And that really really helps you to get the perfect texture
Please let me know in the comments which recipe you think you guys like the best
I think this one's my favorite because it's so pretty and also it's so good
And not to mention you're getting so many vitamins and minerals and nutrients from this combo
