We're live and we're live on time We're live from The recovery room which if you don't know what I mean by the recovery room It is basically the room that we have been confined to and will be confined to for like the next what? Little over five weeks four weeks still. For her hair to grow back on her leg. So that's different for every dog Memphis is getting a lot of it's fuzzy Memphis is getting a lot of supplements right now Like omega-3 supplements and fish oil supplements and things like that Brittany. Thank you for the super chat and you're right and I'm giving her a lot of that stuff to help make sure that her fur does grow back quickly and evenly and Hopefully will still look as amazing as the rest of her coat by the time it all comes back some dogs Huskies are not supposed to be shaved unless for medical reasons And of course, this was a medical reason that Memphis had to be shaved like there was nothing we could do about it She had to be shaved But sometimes Huskies, especially when they get older when they get shaved their fur It can be a little bit challenging to get it to grow back and to get it to grow back Well, so one of the things I did as soon as we knew that she was going to be having surgery was I switched up some of her Supplements and I'm making sure that she's just getting some omega-3s are the biggest thing that you really want to make sure they have When it comes to a nice a nice coat and then fish treats things like that but her fur Her fur is growing back like crazy like I don't know if you guys can tell on camera you can see It's thicker right here than it is here But it is definitely growing back Kevin. I'll let them back in here in a minute Uh, that's one of the things that we've been doing with her throughout the day is playing with her little cat toys Yes, we do some puzzle treats and things like that puzzle toys and stuff like that for her as well I try right now. We're trying not to do too much where she has to be standing She can stand she needs to stand but when we're doing a little bit of the mental stimulation and the mental exercises like that It's just to kind of keep her from being bored you know, we don't want her to get you know sad and bored and we're kind of locked in this little room and What kind of treats does she like? She likes the Vita essential minnows and then the old mother Hubbard mini treats is another one And I buy them the small treats because I don't want to give them too many treats. So they mostly get the small treats Yep, we've done Kong toys anything like that anything to just really keep her busy Hopefully when she gets her stitches out on Monday She will be able to go for short five to ten minute walks Rosa said sorry if you said this earlier, but is she walking better on her bad leg yet? Oh, yeah I can get I'm sure I can get her to howling right here Because we live in northern Michigan even though our pool is heated it is already mid-september now that being said it's 85 degrees today It's supposed to be 87 today. We're supposed to have a couple more pretty hot days So I'm as much as I always hope for it to get cold I'm kind of hoping it'll last a little bit longer So that her and I will be able to get as much pool time in as possible before we have to close our pool For winter I did find a place in Traverse City called the Long Lake Animal Hospital It is two hours and 40 minutes one way for the drive. So I have to drive over there Do therapy with Memphis and drive home We start we go I think 12 days from today We go for our consultation and then we will work out a program of what we're gonna do for her And I just I really want to take her to give her the best chance possible It's not gonna be cheap, but I don't care like we're gonna we're gonna do whatever we can to make sure that Memphis has the Best chance at being able to one use this leg again Just as if it was never hurt in the first place and to keep her other leg strong I did order a custom brace for her other leg as well because we wanted to make sure That uh, she would be able to use it. You guys have seen her do it before so Memphis Probably Will be able to be with the sled with the other dogs But not with much weight behind it and for very short distances so I don't know if you guys how many of you were around when Oakley got older and she could only run shorter distances on The sled because her arthritis was just getting to be a little bit much Kind of the same way Memphis will be able to go for short runs and that'll be pretty much it Just a little short runs Is Memphis Skia is Memphis is not Skia. This definitely did him the best a couple of the other dogs did him but nobody did him like Memphis We can team Memphis up with drizzle Up-together on the sled slow, but steady. Yes, so there's a chance I'm gonna be getting an electric scooter for the dogs a fat tire bike electric scooter Which would allow Memphis to do her trot without actually being able without actually pulling because I'll be able to keep the scooter Going a certain speed and she doesn't have to have like any pull She can just kind of trot along at whatever speed she would like But again, it all depends on when she recovers. How long will it take her to fully recover? We don't really know in six weeks. She's gonna be able to start doing a little bit more than what she's doing now, but I Think it's like a full 12 weeks before they consider it a full like recovery And even then everything's just gonna we got to take everything slow. We can't rush her with anything We want to make sure that her muscles stay really You know, we want to make sure she's using her muscles That's why we're doing therapy and that's why we're gonna be doing the pool the swimming in the pool and the water treadmill We just want to make sure that she you know does all that I've started I've put her on some Supplements for muscle and she was already on supplements for joint health But I put her on some more powerful ones and some ones for muscle health as well Memphis. You do not look comfortable Can she still ride along with the bike, um Again, it all just depends like these are all kind of unknowns. They really are kind of all I've got my cat snake. I know you're fine And it'll force her to put that foot on the ground So you kind of just help her balance a little One of the other things we did is we got another dog bowl and brought it in here So that she's always got fresh water because that's super important as well Fresh water The good stuff Did she have trouble pottying with the splint on yes, she did so thankfully that was only on for three days She peed on her own leg once But she only had the splint on she had the surgery Monday she got the splint off what was it Wednesday I can do it. Memphis currently is only on the gabapentin Which is like a nerve blocker I don't even know what it does But she's only on the gabapentin She gets one at nine in the morning And she gets one at nine at night And we're hoping after Monday That we can stop giving her that But right now that is the only medication she is on She was on tramadol And she did not do very good on the tramadol She was very grumpy And groggy Which is supposed to make her calm And it's supposed to make her chill out Memphis is pretty chill to start So when we put her on it Huskies don't like anesthesia They don't like medication They don't like to feel not in control of their bodies They get very vocal They can get grumpy Which is why sometimes we see grumpy Memphis after anesthesia So we ended up taking her off the tramadol I called the vet Talked to the vet And they said go ahead and take her off of it And see how she does And she did just fine Not on it Are we going to get it?
