It would be targeted within 30 minutes if it continued risking ceasefire and negotiations
that's the coming in that U.S. warship was something that was moving in the direction
U.S. destroyer approached the Strait of Hormuz but it was turned back after Iran's firm warning
via Pakistani mediator. We are in a ceasefire right now, a two-week ceasefire that has been
announced by both sides. It's a very fragile temporary peace that has been negotiated and
in the midst of it if there is a U.S. warship that has turned back from Hormuz or there is
some kind of allocation that has been made by Iran that could risk the negotiations as well.
Let's cut across to my colleague Pradeep Dutta. He's joining us live from Jerusalem,
Israel and get more perspective from this. Pradeep, what is the latest detail?
Yes, that's what actually the Iran has charged that the U.S. warship the destroyer was moving
towards Strait of Hormuz and immediately they got to know about this thing and they
informed Pakistan in this regard because Pakistan is playing a role of an intermediary.
So they informed him that if the ship is not going to change its course within 30 minutes
they are going to target the warship and immediately after that the ship changes
and gets moved to a different direction because already there's a lot of trust deficit between
the two countries. They had often on been talking about that and in such a situation
what Iran claims is that the warship was moving towards the Strait of Hormuz.
That clearly indicates that somewhere they were trying to escalate the situation because
that they are going to ensure that Strait of Hormuz opened without Iran or with Iran.
So that is if their consent is there they are going to open even if their consent is not there
they are going to open it because at the end of the day they have to ensure that the ship
because United States of America has made it clear that there can't be selective blockade
and so far there's no confirmation coming from the US side in this regard.
But what actually Iran is saying is that they informed this thing to Pakistan because Pakistan
is playing a role of a negotiator. They informed the intermediary that this is not done and they
also mentioned about that how there's a close coordination between the armed forces of Iran
as well as the diplomats here. So they immediately informed the diplomats about the situation
and the warning was issued to in this regard to the US warship and finally that warship had to
change its course. So this is really a very different kind of a circumstances because we
have seen that the last few days also ever since the ceasefire has been announced. There had been
attacks from the either side though Iran mentioned that it was initially the reports were not
conveyed to the commander of the ground. That's one of the reasons that some of the areas were
targeted. The similar thing has been happening on the another Israel side there's no ceasefire.
So let's see how things are really going to unfold but right now all I can say
the biggest challenge that the trust deficit. That is the biggest challenge. The rest of the
things come afterward. What are the major faults? What actually they have to do? How they have to
implement things? How they have to go for some kind of modalities? But yes there are certain
faults. There are stumbling blocks and there are differences that they need to iron out. Let's see
how they're going to iron out those differences but the biggest thing is the trust deficit and
this is not clear whether the warship was really going to a state of hormones. Let's wait and watch
what the US has to say in this regard but so far the information what we are getting is that
Iran informed intermediary Pakistan in this regard. If the ship is not going to change its course within
30 minutes they are going to target that warship and that would have really escalated the situation
and once again things would have been back to square one. That would have really scuttled
and as you pointed out the trust deficit remains one of the critical facets and of
course that's one facet that's dominating. I'm playing in the background as those
talks happen between US and Iran.
