In a great forest stood an ancient, everlasting pine tree that had lived ten thousand years. A dragon coiled around the pine tree, while a tiger crouched beneath it. The ten-thousand-year pine tree thought: “There is a dragon above and a tiger below — how disturbing!” When the dragon was away, the pine tree spoke to the tiger: “Be cautious! When the dragon comes up and down the tree, he is annoyed by you. If you stay here, it will be very inconvenient for him.” When the tiger wasn’t nearby, the pine tree warned the dragon: “Be cautious when you climb up and down the tree; when you pass by the tiger’s den, don’t touch the other creatures. Others dislike you very much.”
