Genki. And my friend here is the star of this, right?
Wow, small fried fish. You got bones, but you're supposed to eat it just like this.
Kokole.
That's the name, kokole. Pepe and shito.
Okay, so the pepe, this one is a
Pepe gravy, and this is like a super spicy pepper.
So I mixed, I got both sauces, like the gravy, the chili sauce, fish, and genki.
This one, the fish is very small, so you can easily just put it together, right? Take a big bite.
Crunchy.
Like that, huh?
Mm-hmm. For me, it's all about the spice. I won't lie, man, I'm getting full off this filling.
So here, they're making basically like fruit candy, right? So the fruits here, then they boil it,
they put it into these plastic bags, and you open a hole, right? Like this.
Oh my god.
Mm-hmm.
It's good. Oh, wow. So basically the flesh of the fruit,
lots of sugar here. Very sweet, a little sour as well. It's almost like a paste. So what's this one called?
King's bite?
Nice. This one must be like way more milky, though.
Lots of cacao.
Mm-hmm. And that's it. Palm wine. Cheers. Salud.
Oh, wow. That is fresh.
That is like from right here, huh? It is time for street food, but careful.
I'll poke your eye out. Mm-hmm. It's good, huh? Mm-hmm. Oh, I can have like 10 of these.
So we're trying some amazing mango.
Oh, it's sweet. It's perfect.
Sweeto.
My favorite fruit on the planet. I know. Best fruit.
These are the actual cocoa beans. I actually don't eat the whole thing, just suck on it and spit out the nut.
It's like slimy. Mm-hmm. Very similar to the cacao or the cocoa, right? You have a seed.
No, but the flesh around it?
Yeah. Slimy. A little spongy. So this is the millet porridge and the fried donut.
Just like that, huh? Yeah. Mm-hmm. Tasty.
Mm-hmm. A little sweet, right? The sugar.
I'm gonna dip it.
Mm-hmm. Like that?
Mm-hmm.
Millet is so different. This is the huache, right? So huache is basically just the rice and the black-eyed beans.
We have some cabbage, some carrots, some noodles. This is like cassava flour. Over here
we have another delicious gravy and right here we have the goat.
Reminds me of arroz con frijoles. It's basically like black beans with rice.
This right here is the goat. So you have goat with this delicious egg with tomatoes.
Whoa, the smell, the aroma is popping out.
And sorry about the music. There's music going on everywhere here in Ghana.
So I'm gonna try their honey and this comes from their lodge which is literally on the border with Togo.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, that's so good.
Mm-hmm. We have two delicious plates. This is the tatale and this is cassava, yam and plantain.
Cheers, my friend. Cheers!
Oh my god.
Oh, it's hot. It's alright, you know. It's alright. He's not really used to it.
You haven't seen me eat.
What did they eat before this? Because spice is everywhere.
It's good. Let's try the next one. Oh, man.
It's really hot.
I need a napkin. It's like boiling.
Mm-hmm. Whoa.
So it is plantain.
I don't even know how you would explain it.
Savory and sweet at the same time. Exactly. My friends, we have the kebabs. And then we have the awfully hot sauce again. Always.
Simple, light, enjoyable and lots of flavor.
Okay, this is the abolo.
Abolo is like a typical dish from the Volta region. It's made with corn.
It's a bit nutty, it's a bit sweet. You're like hitting every single
bite right there. Wow. Almost like a nice bean salad, right? It is.
So, if you've ever had like creamy spinach dip, it's very similar in terms of that taste. Very creamy.
Mixing it with the brown rice.
It's a bit nutty, it's a bit sweet. This is our catfish.
Do we give it a name?
I don't even know how to open this. You have to turn it.
I've never seen this.
Look at this.
Alright, let's dive in. It's gonna be hot. It's gonna be really hot.
Oh, it's spicy.
It was worth the drive.
Look at the shininess. And you turn this guy over.
So hot.
Huge fish.
TZ to Zafi is the starch dish of the north and we're having it with a yoyo leaves soup. Right away
it like feels different.
Mmm.
Oh man. So it's like a
it's like almost like a cream spinach. Yeah. Similar. This is fantastic. I love the fish by the way. It's good, huh? Not so many bones.
And the fish, the sauce.
It has that red palm oil, right? It's funny because people would not expect to eat like soups with your hands.
Yeah, but they do all day here. Yeah. All right. Let me present to you Gablé.
Gablé. Gablé is made out of bean flour, which they mix with salt, water and a secret ingredient.
We're having it with Wagashi and then we have three dipping powders. Definitely get an onion in there.
Oh. Oh man.
Mm-hmm.
So we're here at Sai and look at this. We have a cashew wine,
cocoa, white wine. Okay. Cheers.
Here goes. First time cashew wine. First time.
Oh, that smells good.
Mmm.
Wow, I didn't expect that. You know, it's wine, but at the same time it's so different. It's so different.
It has more of an earthiness to it. Very much. Yeah. Cocoa. Round two.
Chocolate wine. Whoa.
I know that smell.
This is, I'm definitely getting cocoa. It smells like fermentation. That's what it smells like. Yeah.
Yeah.
Mmm.
Wow. It's different. You know, smelling it, it felt like a little bit of cider.
Oh. Like just smelling it, but this is definitely not cider. And this is Alombo Buitesh.
So it's basically plants mixed with gin, right? So it's like a, so it's sort of like medicine alcoholic beverage.
Definitely medicine, man. It's a bit bitter. A bit bitter. So this is called Ori Gin. Ori Gin Bitters.
So this is what everybody does here in Ghana. They have a little, a little bit of gin and some chop.
Mmm.
Whoo. I need that red red now. And this is it. Red red.
Beans and plantains. And then over here we have some chicken and this I'm guessing is cassava flour.
Gari. Gari. Gari.
Whoa. So Paulo's telling me to add some of the gari because it's a bit hard, right?
Mmm.
These beans are fantastic.
I love this, like, I guess it's like a bean mash stew in a way, right? It's a big mix.
Best thing to do is to pair it with some of the plantain, right? So this actually is like a maduro.
It's called maduro, right? Sweet plantain.
And the chicken is super fresh.
Crunchy. So this is millet beer pitu. Cheers, my friends. Cheers. Cheers.
Mmm.
Definitely tastes like yeast, you know?
Tastes beer. So they also brought us the sweet pitu. So it just looks a little darker, right? A little cloudier.
Yeah, super sweet. Last sip, my man. Cheers.
So we found a coconut stand here. He has a bunch of coconuts. He just cuts it really fast. All right, here we go.
Done. Done. Super spicy. Super. Super spicy.
This is not spicy, man.
Which one is this? This one?
It's not spicy as you want it to be.
This is like, for me, a scale of 1-10 is like a 2.
Super hot. What I suggest is eating it on the side, giving a few minutes the air, right?
I mean, it's nice. It's actually like another like maduro. Yeah, almost like a sweet plantain.
Oh, yeah, but fried with some spices. Exactly.
And ultra hot.
So basically like a strip of squid. It's still really hot. Yeah.
Nice and tasty. Oh, I love it. I'm all about that spice, so why not?
Nice. So you understand why I say this is hot?
It's not killer hot. It's good.
If you're on a real budget and you're traveling through Ghana, you can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner for less than a dollar.
It's good. It's corn.
I would suggest pairing this with something of a protein, but he was saying that most people have this with bread.
So 1 and 1, so 40 cents. You get this and bread, you fill up, you know, that's what it's made for.
It's really just to like fill you up completely.
It's still yummy hot.
It's actually a little sweet. It's like bitter, a little sour, but then you have a sweetness to it, but that's sugar.
Here we go, I'm going to try the stomach.
That's different. Totally different. That's definitely different. Nice. Spice are good though.
Hot. I'll eat stomach all day.
And then here we have the banku. Just mix it.
Spicy. Oh wow, it's really hot.
So tasty.
Whatever spices they put on tilapia, not too hot. The hot thing is the tomato peppery sauce.
I told the lady here I need some more pepper and she's like, okay.
She like threw a huge, like half my plate's covered now.
So again, easy. Banku, get some of the sauce. Nice and spicy. Get some of the flesh.
Oh, yeah. All right, man. Cheers.
Street food. Breakfast of champions. Got a nice egg sandwich here. Some cabbage, some green peppers. Looks good.
Nice.
Simple, right?
So that's some fluffy white toast.
In the middle has some eggs, right? Two eggs per.
With cabbage and peppers and onions.
So we made it spicy now. A little bit. A little bit?
No.
That's not like yesterday. No.
Yesterday in the market, I had a chili that almost killed me. Thank you, my friend. Okay.
And it helps fight malaria.
Yeah, it helps fight malaria fever? Yeah.
Oh, that's good.
Oh, I gotta drink like 10 of these, man.
So he just cut up my coconut, right? And then he gives you,
you know, they cut a piece of this, right? A piece of the coconut. And that's used as a spoon. So you just go in,
get this, get the flesh, the tenderness, right?
This is so good. Oh, yeah, right there.
So this is, the best part is this, man.
Thank you. Thank you.
And this is it, guys. Fufu. First time trying it.
So it's basically boiled cassava, plantains, light soup, and goat. And I think there's fish here as well, right?
So here we have fish, here we have goat, and here we have it. Oh, it's so hot.
Oh, ginger as well.
Oh, that's some potent ginger.
That's how we do it, right?
Whoa, it is so hot. It's like boiling, guys.
And there's the fish. This is actually tuna.
This is it, guys. The fufu right here.
You just gotta pull it out.
Look at that. It's like a pasty,
doughy.
It's hot. So you get some of this
tuna, right?
Get a piece, mix it with this, really hot, and then we eat.
Look at this piece of goat.
Oh, it's so hot.
Oh, it's scorching. The easiest thing to eat right now is the tuna.
The goat's on fire, but they give you so much goat. Look at this.
Mmm, lots of flavor.
I love the soup, man. It's almost like an oily
red soup, similar to like, I wouldn't say a curry because it's more of a soup, right?
Oh, but it's so ridiculously hot. I'm loving it, man.
So, how do you do this? You break the head off a little bit.
You get in here.
Breakfast. Mmm.
Nice.
Salty, dry smoke.
And this is it. So the flesh, like that.
Oh, it's nice. Mmm. Love the flesh. It's really the best part.
The only thing is, it's really filling. Like, if you
drink the coconut and then have the flesh, you get full.
All right, bro. Let's do this. Oh, yeah. That is some spicy, spicy sauce, huh?
Oh, yeah. Spicy.
Oh, I love the mix. Salt flour gives it a nice crunch.
Mixed with the spice of that sauce.
Noodles. It almost feels like a
almost like a dry ramen bowl with noodles.
All right, my friends. I'm going to try some right here.
It's bitter. It's bitter. I tried this in
in Accra. Something similar. I don't know if it was exactly this one.
Yeah, so tomorrow we're going to
go on with our aqua day.
Wow, this is a very bitter drink. Yeah, very bitter, but it's good for your immune system.
Yeah, it's more of herbs. You know, you are in Africa.
Everything is perfect. Yeah, and you need to try and try and try again and again.
They gave me three dishes. Right here we have
the prawns. They were on the grill and then mixed and sautéed with some vegetables and
yam fries. So they still come with the tails, right? So you just got to cut that off. Get a nice prawn.
Prawn curry. Oh, that's fire. Oh, wow.
With a bunch of vegetables. Love it. So you have carrots,
onions, green peppers. The best. So good.
I didn't want to overdo it every single day, but now I'm going all in.
It's too good. Plus rice.
Mmm, the yellow rice. There's like some raisins in there. Fire, fire.
Look at this. Look at this sauce. Whoa.
It has like a little bit of ting, some nice spice, flavors.
The good thing is in Ghana, nothing's bland. Nothing.
I've been to a lot of places and sometimes you see something that's very different.
You're like, wow, that's unique. So this is like slimy. So we got crab.
You got fish. Look at this. One of the spines right here. Whoa, that is a spine right there.
The backbone. And here, careful. There are spines. I think the reason for that is to mix it with
the bangku. And because of that, it's supposed to do with your hands, right?
You're not supposed to eat this with a fork or knife. So you dip it like that.
And this dough really fills you up. Always comes the same.
Always wrapped in plastic. You open it up and that's it.
Well, that's right. Crazy. I don't know. She didn't really tell me what it was, but
this is definitely a fish because you got a bone right there. Get a piece of bangku.
Put this right here. I mean, I'm just trying it, right?
Some people have been telling me that what I'm eating is a little exotic.
Yeah, I understand that, you know, but I'm a world traveler. You guys just dive into everything.
Try as much as I can and pray to God that I feel good the next day.
Oh, I feel good. There's like something you would find the South United States, you know,
like a pork neck soup or something.
If you want, go deep into the crab. Let's go in here. Break off.
Pull all that out.
Oh, it's delicious. But this is slimy.
Straight up slime. I'm good. I think I'm gonna have another tiny piece.
So, I don't have fugu. I have omutu, which is a local rice ball. So, two rice balls.
Here, I have the ribs of the antelope. Yes. Right there, I have another piece of flesh.
And this is like a peanut sauce. Oh, that's good. This is exotic. It's wild.
So, it's like gelatin. Some yummy flesh.
I know, man. I personally love peanut sauce. Oh, this grass cutter right here. Look at this.
Oh, wow. That's really good. So, basically, I just ate a rat.
Not a rat. Rodent, no?
So, I have to get in here, grab this rice ball. So good. Best thing to do is let it like
absorb that yummy peanut sauce. It's like a peanut soup, right? Oh, man. It's so good.
This actually reminds me of like sticky rice. The Japanese sticky rice, you know?
Baby. Everybody here has been so nice. The whole staff, they let me film everything.
Both. Phenomenal. Get some of that flesh.
It literally falls off the bone.
Best thing to do is combine them both, right? Like that.
I love the rice ball. I actually like it better than the baku and the pupu.
The ribs is the best piece of any animal. Look at that, right? Oh, look at all that.
Got some boiled yam. Got some plantains. It's a big meal.
A little bit of this. Oh, yeah.
So, basically, it's a plant. It actually has texture of like scrambled eggs with herbs.
But it's not scrambled eggs, no? I think the oil is the best part.
Like that. Big bite. This red oil is so good.
And this for me, guys. So, this is origin bitter with mandingo. Okay. So, I tried something similar
with mandingo and africa, herb africa. Something like that. The mix. This is different, though.
It's medicinal. All the bitters are medicinal. Straight up herbs.
All right, my man. Let's do this. And that's the goat, my friends. Look how delicious this is.
And you go in. So good. Wow. Pupu. Look how big it is. Oh, yeah.
The almighty snail. Look how monstrous this is. I've never seen one this big.
Awesome.
Guinness for an extra.
Brewed right here in Ghana. I love it. Oh, malty. This is amazing. What a good kebab.
It's very different. I mean, whenever you come to African countries,
please understand. It's very different culture. It's very exotic. No one uses the utensils.
Always the hand. Oh, wow. This is fanti keke. And this is made with corn dough and then wrapped
with banana leaf. Like that. Nice piece right there. Then you have to go in here and pull
off some flesh from the fish. So, here I got a tiny fish. Literally just took off the head
and the tail. Let's see. Too slowly. Lots of bones.
Okay. So, the owner literally in front of the cacao just said, hey, you want to actually eat
something? I'm like, yeah. I want to try some cacao. He has some right here. It's good. It's
very, very bitter. I need 85%. 100% is too much. Here you go. Oh, you gotta take it. I take it?
Yeah. You're the man. All right, guys. So, this street food vendor has a lot of proteins here,
okay? So, he has beef skewers, he has hot dogs, and he has chicken. I got two beef skewers. I
think it's like five. So, it's like $1. I'm starving right now. I need to eat something
right away. That's how it is. The music's blasting. People walking around. Pretty awesome.
This is like my dinner right now. You know dinner, right? Lunch and dinner. 5 p.m.
having a nice beef kebab. Oh, yeah. Nice and crunchy. Salty. Good spices.
And onion in the middle. And I got some of these banana chips. Plantain chips.
Nice and crunchy. Adding up a little bit of the red oil. Okay, guys. Let's dive in. And we're not
using our hands because we have nowhere to wash our hands. So, we're using a spoon. Just gonna
dive in. Oh, man. So unique. You know, in the country, it's all about these doughs, right?
Cassava dough. Corn dough. Plantain dough. But it's so good. Okay, I'm gonna taste it.
So, I just put my finger inside. It's like sweet.
Tastes like barbecue. Now, I need some wine to flush this down.
All right. Let's try this plantain. Oh, still hot. Good. Fluffy, yummy bread.
Very tasty. Done. Let's get the inside now, no? Okay.
Yeah.
So good. So, this is coconte. So, it's dry cassava flour. But it resembles fufu. Mix it with the
gravy. Hot. I mean, for me, it's the same as fufu. Very, very similar. I don't see a difference.
And I got some goat, right? I tried to break off a piece of the goat. I'm gonna mix it
with the fufu. To be honest, this is exotic. I think every meal I've had in Ghana has been exotic.
All right, my friends. Let's dive on to this food. Wow. So much food. The texture of the
omelette is actually a little different because she put it in the salmonella. So, she like
boiled the top, right? Wow. I'm gonna start doing that.
Putting this skillet straight into the salmonella like that.
So unique that I never drink fruit juices unless it's like natural. This is real.
I can drink like 500 of those straight up. So peaceful. This breakfast. Breakfast of champions.
Got our green pea soup right here. Double salad, chicken,
vegetable stew, some rice, and some chili. Let's start with the green pea soup.
Oh, wow. That's delicious.
And so, this chicken is grilled, but then they baked it.
Oh, that's good. Add some spice on top right there like that.
Oh, yeah. So, I gotta try some of this rice, right?
Nice rice. I think I'm gonna love this though. Vegetable stew.
A little spicy. This is a gourmet ice cream. I don't know what they put on top of it. It's
almost like pop rocks. I'm having a pumpkin and potato soup. Also, having like a caesar salad
and a carrot salad on the side. So good.
And for dinner, we're having chicken kebabs.
I love it. Onions, chicken, red pepper, green pepper, onions, chicken, all the best.
So tasty. And this is my friends, the huate. It's so good. I love the rice, spring onions,
the lettuce, and you have this delicious, like freaking yummy, a little sweet, a little spicy.
That sauce.
This is actually my favorite dish in the country. Nice chicken.
Fried chicken. Lightly fried. Still very juicy. Crispy. Oh, wow. That village chicken though.
So here in Ghana, you're not gonna see people roasting cashews on the side of the road. That's
not how it works, right? You can just come here, pull off the crop, leave the cashew right there,
and then eat. It's super moist, sour, but delicious. Quick snack. It's a good snack, right?
Roasted yam. I would add some spice though. With some chili sauce and black pepper. I'm excited
for this lunch. I'm trying yolof for the first time. This rice has been cooked in a stew and
then it also has noodles, some red sauce, some cabbage, and some fried chicken. That's good.
Actually reminds me of like Chinese, like Indo-Chinese. So it's like a moist rice with
noodles. Lots of flavor. And this one has cabbage.
Oh, yeah. I love fried chicken in this country. It's never like crazy fried. It's so good.
All right, guys. Dinner is served. Starting off with a delicious tomato soup. We have a Greek
salad with some beets and then we have the baked lamb chops with some delicious yam fries. Gotta
try one. It's still really hot. Oh, yeah. That's good. Next, I got my Greek salad. I love Greek
salads. The dressing she put in here, it's almost like a mustardy mayo. So I asked her for some
spicy sauce. That's so spicy. Damn. There's a chili in there. The thing is that if you ask for
spice in Ghana, it's like Thailand. They go crazy with the peppers. And here we got it. Pork chop.
Wow. Look at this guy. Huge. It's like she used like a soy glaze. And the last thing we gotta
try are these vegetables. So she put like the fish oil. It's almost like that Chinese Szechuan taste.
Yes, we did it. We got to watch it. Best thing to do is mix it all up, right?
So much flavor here. Right here, I got the peanut sauce with some chicken. Like that, right?
All that peanut sauce.
Oh, it's like delicious, man. It's sweet. It's oily. Right here, nice piece of chicken.
Still really hot. The peanut soup is boiling. You gotta be careful. Too hot.
So I'm gonna try the millet porridge.
Okay, it's a little sour. It's not so good.
you
