Welcome to northern Armenia! This small, Christian nation in the Caucasus lies at the crossroads between Asia and Europe. It’s known for its religious history and impressive monasteries, as well as its natural beauty and friendly locals.

In this documentary, we’re heading to the northern part of the country, starting at Lake Sevan, the region’s largest body of water. We’re exploring this area’s rich history, from the 900 medieval Armenian cross-stones called khachkars found in area, as well as the ancient Sevanavank Monastery complex.

Then, we’re heading to Dilijan, also known as Armenia’s Little Switzerland due to its scenic landscapes. From the medieval architecture and ancient walnut tree at the 10th-century Haghartsin Monastery, to the red deer breeding center near Dilijan National Park, we’re exploring what makes this special town tick.

And finally, we’re visiting Gyumri, a city known for its art, handicrafts, and humor. There, we’re visiting the country’s oldest barbershop and meet local craftsmen who use unusual materials to make works of art.

Throughout our journey, I’ll take you to try phenomenal Armenian cuisine made with love. From the traditional sweet bread called gata, to the crayfish kebabs near Lake Sevan, to a spread fit for a king in Dilijan, to the succulent fish and caviar in Gyumri, this adventure will have your mouth watering.
