It's been my honor the past four or so years to serve as the House Co-Chair of the Kentucky-Taiwan
Caucus. I'd like to congratulate the gentleman from Hopkins, who will be stepping into that
role as the House Co-Chair, along with the gentleman from Fayette 72. This resolution
simply honors the connection between our Commonwealth and the nation of Taiwan.
This year marks both the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence
and the 30th anniversary of Taiwan's first direct presidential election. Taiwan ranks as Kentucky's
20th largest export market, with Kentucky exporting $328 million in trade goods to Taiwan,
while Taiwan ranks as Kentucky's third largest import source. Foxconn Technologies, the American
subsidiary of Taiwan-listed Foxconn Technologies, will locate its first United States manufacturing
operation in Louisville, with a $173 million investment that will create 180 new jobs.
Once again, we've had a great relationship with Taiwan. A lot of trade. I know they stepped up a
lot during COVID and provided essential medical devices and things to the United States. They've
supported us in times of tornado and flood, and they've been a good partner for us.
With that, I move adoption of House Resolution 69.
