Guthrum & The Great Summer Army

In the year 871 the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms stood on the verge of oblivion. From beyond the sea a bloodthirsty horde of Scandinavians had arrived six years previously to not only plunder but to claim their lands entirely. Two new leaders came to the fore in that year. For the Anglo-Saxons it was the young heir to the throne, Alfred. For the Vikings it was a Sea-King newly arrived in Britain. His name was Guthrum, and he would go on to become Alfred's greatest adversary in his 28 year long struggle with the Vikings.
