It was almost time for the Passover celebration.
Jesus and his disciples gathered in a quiet upstairs room in Jerusalem.
They were about to share a very special meal together.
But this wasn't just any dinner.
Jesus knew it would be the last meal he would share with his friends before going to the cross.
He had something very important to say.
Jesus sat down and picked up some bread.
He thanked God and broke it.
Take this and eat it.
This is my body given for you.
Drink this.
This is my blood of the new covenant.
It is poured out so that many people can be forgiven.
The disciples didn't understand everything yet.
But Jesus was showing them that he came to give his life for them.
And for all of us.
This special meal became known as the Last Supper.
And today we remember it when we take communion.
It reminds us of Jesus' great love.
Jesus gave us a way to remember his sacrifice.
And he showed us how to love and serve others.
Just like he did.
