Hello this is John and I'm doing a quick video about pocket watches. They come in different shapes,
I'm sorry different sizes, different manufacturers, different companies.
This one's an open case back and this one's kind of cool it's Omega. It was actually given to
this person for working so many years at their employer.
And as you can see they have designs, some of them are engraved,
some of them actually you have to have a key to wind. Very cool. This is more of a stopwatch
but something to look for when buying pocket watches is when you open up the back you want
to look for five or six adjustments and then joules. You want to start at about 19 joules.
If you have a pocket watch that's got five or six adjustments I believe that's considered
railroad quality. This one here you can see it says four adjustments, 15 joules.
You definitely want to, I mean it's not bad but if you're going for more collector quality
and you just wind it a little, see if we can wind it, shake it and it starts to spin.
So also you want one that doesn't need to be serviced. A lot of times there's hallmarks here
on the inside of the case, tells you if it's gold filled, gold plated, so on and so forth.
Majority of time these are sold for particularly their gold weight. If the joules are low and the
adjustments are low but again you want to go for five or six adjustments, minimum of 15 joules
and then you've got something a little bit worth more than just the
gold precious metal content. So there you have it and as far as what do you clip on these things,
that chain, there's tons of chains. Chains again typically you know 10-20 bucks unless
you're talking about precious metal content and you know you've got old designs.
You want to typically match up the color of the gold or the color of the
pocket watch. See if that one would work there. There's a couple different clips, a clip you can
slip into your button of your shirt or jacket. This one would clip onto the watch
and you have another little piece of jewelry. Kind of cool.
So there you have it, a little quick overview of pocket watches
and chains and I hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
