Every Strange Mythical Hybrid Creature Explained in 18 Minutes
The Chimera is one of the oldest hybrid nightmares in recorded history, appearing in Homer's Iliad as a creature so wrong in its construction that the Greeks used its name to describe anything impossible or monstrous. It had the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and a tail that ended in a living serpent, and on top of all that, it breathed fire. Born from Typhon and Echidna, the two most prolific monster-parents in Greek mythology, the Chimera terrorized the region of Lycia until the hero Bellerophon was sent to kill it, arriving on the back of the winged horse Pegasus.
