Germanic Oblong Shield at the XVI. Berlin Buckler Bouts with Ingo Petri

So I finally had the chance to try some slow sparring with Germanic oblong shields at the BB in Berlin! It was very interesting! Ingo explained to us , that the shields, when hold with the long axis perpendicular, are similar in handling to the round shields with large area of cover. If the long axis is held horizontal, it behaves more like a buckler and also lacks cover of the lower body.
