This is a timed race. 30 minutes instead of 55 minutes. There are never pit stops if you can
avoid it at this level. And they're pushing close to 170 miles per hour on that backstretch.
Buckle up, strap in, get ready to ride. Everything is bigger in Texas. And for the first time,
Indy next by Firestone racing on the streets of Arlington in the shadow of the Cowboys in
the Rangers Stadium, it's Detulio, the rookie, controlling the pace in this long stretch down
the backstretch, almost a mile long, looking for the starting line. Lined up with Fittipaldi,
and they crash even before the green. And Colin Kaminski has massive damage in the back.
Kevin, that accordion effect is always really, really difficult. Oh, there's another crash at
the pole sitter. Detulio is off with contact to incidents before we get to the first corner.
And now the caution comes out. Let's watch this start. There's the green. And that's Jack
Beaton started in the second row who jumped the start ahead of everyone else behind that. Colin
Kaminski was caught up in a crash around that bend. It stayed green, going down into what
ultimately is the first corner. Here's looking back again. And there you see Colin Kaminski
getting shoved up into the wall. There were others involved in this. And then you take
it all the way down to turn ten, which becomes turn one. And that orange and white car of
Kaharchuk, the seventy one left front, getting into the right rear of the pole sitter. Detulio,
he is off. We're hearing the front wing for Kaharchuk might be OK. Question is,
will he get a penalty? Unfortunately, day is done for Kaminski. So we have one penalty
already assessed. Beat is going to have to go to the back of the field. That was the
easiest part. The Detulio camp, as you might guess, is saying, Hey, this should have never
started. This should be a complete restart, and we keep our position at the points ready to go
green once again. Fittipaldi is controlling, and now it's time to go from Arlington into turn one
Very difficult section as we head to the horseshoe portion of the track.
Actually, Kevin, this is turn one now into two. That restart zone is over that front straight.
It just kind of puts this track in that unique position of the start is one place. Restart and
finish is in another pretty sensible by all these drivers. Very single file right now.
This is a battle coming down this long straight. Kaharchuk pops out to the left.
Here we go. This is almost a mile long run, and it is a drag race into turn ten.
Fittipaldi has the preferred line. Kaharchuk trying it over under,
and Taylor is still right there, ready to pounce. This battle is far from dumb. Timmy has a quick
look at the inside. He decides not to do it. Enzo has to cover no action on the contact from the
71 in the 14, so Kaharchuk can keep his space, and he's going to pop to the outside one more time.
It looks like Kaharchuk is on another good run. Enzo is for sure going to have to defend.
He might not even need to. They're side by side. Oh, they're not quite. This is tight.
The teammates are nose to tail. Taylor is right there within reach. Correa, by the way, in fourth
has the fastest lap of the race. Six tenths better than anybody else. Taylor is looking for
a way around. Oh, Kaharchuk throws it up the inside, and he's... Oh, what a move. Enzo Fittipaldi
trying to answer back. Side by side, back in front. Taylor now side by side. It was almost three wide
for a moment. Fittipaldi. Can he get on the brakes well enough? Taylor looks inside. Kaharchuk
prevails. Still the same, but what action. Kaharchuk one more time looks. Not here.
And there's Max Taylor throwing it way up the inside. Has to back out of it to keep from running
into the leader Fittipaldi. So side by side, Kaharchuk is going to be the loser in this
as Correa is going to pounce. So Taylor moves up to second. Kaharchuk trying to hang on to third.
Johnson looking there. That was wild, Kevin. He did so well to stop the car, to not hit a car.
Wow. Max Garcia with an off somewhere. And we're also told that Josh Pearson has had to
roll down pit lane. May have had contact somewhere. And there's Pearson right there.
We may not have made it to pit lane, but you could definitely see that front wing
sitting on the ground. And is that gonna bring out a yellow? Is there any way he could be moved
off into a safe area? Here's the run into ten again. Single file through here. The car's
currently sitting in the turn one to complex. There are a lot of safety vehicles there. Hopefully
they could get him removed and not go red or not go yellow here. So we see any time we've seen
make a move into turn one. Actually, it looks like we've gone yellow.
Josh Pearson side by side with Salvador de Alba on the outside, right front to left rear
and then into the fence. It looked like that contact may have actually whips the wheel
out of his hands for the briefest second. Will it be the final restart? Who's gonna win the inaugural
Indy next by Firestone race in Arlington? Fittipaldi with a good start. Then it's to
Haylor, Kaharchick, Correa, Johnson and Hughes side by side. Miles Rowe working on de Alba.
They still are side by side as we head into turn one, and there's contact and more pieces
flying off of race cars, but they continue. Wow! Rowe is damaged. So is Stady in the 15 red and
Ryan. I don't even think there was a millimeter between those cars. In fact,
they're even touching, and that's de Alba who is battling with Rowe.
Taylor is right there with a couple of laps to go. He's also got a significant amount of push to
pass over Fittipaldi by nearly 20 seconds on their new sideways. They are next to each other.
Fittipaldi with a wiggle. They are side by side here. Taylor to the inside to the lead. Max
Taylor in front. Fittipaldi's not done yet, and Taylor is gapping. He's turned the fastest lap
of the race last time around. Six tenths of a second faster than anyone else. Spreading them
out. Max Taylor felt he let one get away at ST Petersburg. He has been the quickest all season
long, and he has been able to move his way forward, avoid contact and control the final
stretch of this timed race. It will be a 15 lapper last passing opportunity here. Final corner. Max
Taylor will be looking for the checkered flag. Seize it. Max Taylor, the 18 year old from the
New York City area, is a winner in Indynext in Arlington.
