Family Country House with Concrete Aesthetics
This small single-story house in Thanh Tri, Hanoi, Vietnam, is designed for a family of three and responds to the humid tropical monsoon climate. The house features two courtyards—front and back—to enhance natural ventilation and create a continuous airflow through the living spaces. Large glass panels connect the interior with the outdoor gardens, blurring the boundary between inside and nature. Extended roof overhangs reduce direct sunlight and heat gain, while a double-layer roof system with nets and stones improves passive cooling. The design combines simple concrete architecture with natural elements, creating a comfortable, climate-responsive home centered around a courtyard garden and a symbolic grapefruit tree.
