‘Who would do such a thing?’: Mystery lingers over human remains found in Shirley pond

I'm Boston 25's Amal Al-Halaan seen in Shirley where earlier this month human remains were found here in Phoenix Pond. The DA identified those remains as belonging to a convicted drug dealer who served time at NCI Shirley, the prison less than a mile and a half away from here. Those parts appear to have been clean-cut. Middlesex District Attorney Marion Ryan earlier this month indicating the body of a convicted drug dealer had been dismembered with some body parts disposed of into Shirley's Phoenix Pond. The March 5th press conference at Shirley's police headquarters offered the first glimpse of what happened but the full story is still coming into focus. But with no indication of who's responsible, the town is left with many unanswered questions. Who would do such a thing? And now the next step for the police of course would be to try to determine out who was responsible. The remains were identified through fingerprints as Peter Deegan, the 69 year old served time at NCI Shirley after pleading guilty to charges related to the trafficking and distribution of cocaine back in 2019. After his release, officials say he was living in a halfway house in Rockland where he was last seen alive just days before the remains were found. Though why those remains ended back up in Shirley continues to be a troubling question. I'm not sure what to make of it. He served time in Shirley. How he ended up back in Shirley under this condition I have no idea. Well a bunch of people saying it was a message. Though despite these unanswered questions in this Shirley residents have found comfort. We do not believe this to have been random. Knowing authorities believe it was targeted saying there is no threat to the public. If they solve it and they have a suspect I think that would help for those that may be you know still on edge somewhat. This has nothing to do with some killer on the loose. This has to do with somebody who knew bad people, did bad things, played bad games and won bad prizes. Less than two weeks after the discovery was made. I reached back out to the police department and the D. A. S. Office to see if there were any updates and they told me that there's no new information to share at this time and the investigation remains ongoing on scene and surely I'm a man of your local station.
