🥕Carrot Soap Making | Natural Cold Process Soap Recipe with Carrot Infused Oil
In this video, I'll show you how to make homemade carrot soap using carrot-infused oil. Unlike other methods that use pureed carrots, I dry and grind the carrots into powder and infuse them in olive oil to extract the carrot essence, resulting in a beautiful orange-colored oil. This oil gives the soap a natural golden-yellow.
I also use sodium citrate, a salt derived from citric acid. Sodium citrate acts as a chelating agent, meaning it binds with metal ions in water, which helps prevent soap scum from forming. By using sodium citrate, I can ensure that the soap performs well in both soft and hard water.
RECIPE:
Oils and Butters (Total weight based on formula):
🫘 5% castor oil (25 g)
🥥 20% coconut oil (100 g)
🫒35% carrot-infused olive oil (175 g)
🧈40% cocoa butter (200 g)
Superfat: 5 %
Lye Solution (36.5% concentration):
⚗️ 69 g NaOH (sodium hydroxide)
🥕100 g carrot juice
Important Note: Always handle sodium hydroxide with extreme care. Wear protective gear, including gloves, goggles, and long-sleeved clothing. Work in a well-ventilated area and follow all safety guidelines.
🧂10 g sodium citrate (2% of total oil weight) diluted with 20 g water (water=x2 sodium citrate)
💧Total liquid: 120 g
Note: During the curing process, white crystalline spots may appear on the surface of the soap due to the sodium citrate in the recipe. This is normal, non-harmful, and can be easily rinsed off.
