I've got a selection of weird and different styles of handlebars that I'm going to be
trying on mountain bikes today.
I've even got a piece of wood.
Let's get into it.
We're going to start off with normal mountain bike bars.
It's not crazy, but it's going to get the session warmed up and there's some pretty
sick jumps over there to get the blood flowing.
Let's go and have a look.
Let's get this show on the road then.
Normal bars, sick trails.
Yes, what a warm-up.
The Canyon Torque firing its way along.
Absolutely loving this beast right now, but it's time to get into the next handlebar and
it's going to be weird.
Let's have a look.
Next bar up is the BMX handlebar.
They are massive.
These are a huge 10-inch rise and they're going to look ridiculous on here, so we're
going to whip off this bar.
Boom, whipped.
Now BMX bars can go on.
We've got the BMX bars all fitted now.
It looks amazing.
Let's head up there because there's a perfect few little jumps in a row we can try it on.
Here we go, first lap with the BMX bars on.
Wow, it's insane.
Wow, what a stance on it.
This is the best.
It's so bolt upright.
It's incredible.
It's actually incredible.
Look, wow.
The MT-BMX, so sick with these bars on.
It makes you like, you know, it feels weird.
It feels like I'm a kid.
It looks well funny just making this bike look tiny and me look all small and stuff
just with these huge bars on.
That's incredible, but that's only the first weird pair.
We've got loads left, so let's get into the next one.
We've now switched everything up and fitted a steering wheel to my Canyon Stitched 360
jump bike.
We found this little skate park here and it's about to go down.
Wow, it's so weird.
I haven't ridden with this for ages.
Get in here, Lou.
It's the actual dream.
Look at it.
The steering wheel is back.
Whoa, I still can't believe I rode the van to line at Bike Park Wales on this.
Let's look at that clip quick.
Look, if we launch out of here, this is like a jump box.
I think some bangers are about to go down.
Let's try a bar then.
Oh my God, that's scary.
Oh, yeah.
Let's do it over the box now then.
Bigger, more exciting.
See how I caught that?
I actually caught it like that.
Look at it on the action replay.
You can just catch anywhere though, can't you?
Wow.
Sick steering wheel bar spins.
Let's just step things up drastically with a backflip.
Here we go.
That's so deaf.
Like, why?
I was so slow.
It's so loose.
Oh, yeah, I never tightened that up actually.
They're completely undone.
That's why it felt weird.
Quickly grab some Allens just to show you how loose they are.
Completely undone.
Totally undone.
Completely undone.
Oh, it feels incredible now.
Oh my God, I could actually tail whip with it now.
As it is a steering wheel, you can just steer how you want.
Let's X up lander out of that.
So we just steered and then come back out of it somehow.
Oh, it's actually dreams.
I'm going to come back.
Well, that's quite a skill in its own actually, isn't it?
I'll get back in normal.
Yes.
You could do them cool manuals where you just let go
because you can just hold.
Oh, I could just hold it.
Yeah, that's going to be the one.
Big one-handed dropped back.
Steve's money across here.
On to the next one.
We're getting rid of the steering wheel.
And I mean, it's just stupid.
We're putting a tennis racket.
Yeah.
No.
Rubbish throwing.
Absolutely rubbish.
Go on, Lou.
Go on.
Yes.
It's in.
Just showing you now if you're in a pinch,
things can still work as bars.
Yes.
Next up, we've switched locations
and I've got these weird drop bars from a road bike.
And they're going to go on my jump bike
and then we're going to be extra weird
by going in the woods where there's MTB trails.
So not made for these.
And this isn't made for that.
So it's double not made for us.
It's going to be well good.
Unfortunately, the brake doesn't fit on these road bike bars,
which is weird.
I don't know what kind of brakes they would have used.
So we're going to go brakeless from now onwards
on the jump bike.
Boom.
Brakeless.
Let's get in the woods.
Dropping.
Brakeless drop bars.
Oh, no.
Oh, it's so fast.
Oh.
Oh, wow.
It's so scary without a brake.
Oh.
Oh, my God.
I almost went over the bars.
Continuing.
Oh.
Oh, no.
I'm scared as sex when you pick up speed so fast.
I had to leg out flat out then.
Oh.
Oh, God.
Full speed section.
Oh, scary.
Oh, that is actually very scary.
Well, that was a huge table.
These little back to back berms here.
Wow.
Oh, where am I going?
Oh, this is different.
Yes.
Oh.
No front brake.
No brakes and road bike bars.
That is the reality of what happens if you ride with that setup.
I think we should go and fit some more ridiculous bars.
Don't you?
It's now the next day and we've come to Twisted Oaks Bike Park.
And I've got this Scarify or the Sacrificer.
Look at this thing.
We're going to take off the road bike bars.
Now it's time for the Sacrificer.
Oh, my God.
It's so perfect in there.
Look.
Oh, these look nice.
That's actually a steeze, isn't it?
Wooden bars.
Yes.
Look at that.
Wow.
Thank you, Louis.
Yeah, that looks really good.
And it feels fairly strong.
So that is the next weird bar.
Wooden ones.
We've come over to the mulch section.
Three different takeoffs, all landing on wood chip.
Which is the same material that my handlebars are made from.
Wood.
Let's get straight into it then.
With a wooden bar spin.
Yeah.
Huge cutty.
Oh, also, I'm brakeless on this as well due to the width of the wood.
While we're here, I want to let you know I've started a second channel for all behind the scenes stuff.
Non-bike related things.
And just general fun.
So if you're interested in seeing more vloggy chilled vibes,
the link is in the description or somewhere up here on top of the screen.
A fresh video just went out, so go and check that out.
Let's get back into the action.
What about a wooden 360?
Wouldn't that be cool?
Yeah.
Cracking jokes and sending it.
You know what time it is.
No, it's not time to rot your teeth.
It's time for a flip.
Straight in.
Oh.
Oh, he's out of control.
Did you just witness that sickness?
Oh, where have my bars gone?
It's all wood everywhere.
Oh, there they are.
All right.
Another trick then.
What would you like to see, Louis?
Tell you if it is then.
All right.
Oh, my God.
That's gnarly.
That's actually makes it way harder without a brake for me.
It's crazy how much I push down on the brake on tailwhips to level the bike.
I think a 360X up would actually be really steeze with wooden bars.
So far then, wooden bars are the next best thing on earth.
Cheap, eco-friendly, efficient, perfect for backflips, 360s, tailwhips, bar spins, 360X ups.
Whatever you need to do, they are capable of doing it.
Let's go and find some other fun stuff in the bike park to hit with it.
What we're going to do is Louis is going to put the camera in slo-mo,
and I'm going to hit that berm brakeless and try and slide and boom, boom, boom.
Final bars on a run are these butterfly bars.
Look at these strange things.
Found them in a road cycling shop.
And they're going to go on my Canyon Torque here.
And they're kind of like hand guards, actually pretty sick.
So we're going to whip them on and see how these perform.
So this is where these bars are weird.
I actually don't know where the brake lever goes.
I think I'd want to hold on the inside.
So that means I've got to try and run the lever hidden in there like that.
That is so strange.
That must be it though, actually.
That's well cool.
That is actually built in hand guards, isn't it?
Yeah, that is next level.
Right, into the woods.
We now cross over on the dual with my butterflies.
Let's send.
Wow, these feel weird already.
Oh, yeah.
Wow, they're amazing.
Kind of skinny, so the control is less, but oh, that's unreal.
Then you can just switch your hand positions there to get a comfier pedal up.
Incredible.
There's so many different options to hold it.
I'm going to do another lap brakeless and just hold from the side.
Here we go then.
We're going to do a combination of bar positionings.
I need the brake for this bit.
Switch to here.
Oh my God, I'm going way too fast now.
Oh my God, that was so sketchy without a brake.
I can't change my hand position.
That is so unenjoyable without holding the brake there.
Oh, tree section.
Wow, that was terrifying.
I thought the bars were going to snap.
I overshot that jump so far then.
So hard switching between positions while attacking.
It's so funny when you can't get to your brake, you realize how much you actually use it.
Even on a small, slow trail like that, you'd still touch every now and again.
I think it's the fact you can't always grab it that makes it terrifying.
I was able to switch between positions then, but when you're coming into a turn,
it's quite hard to move to the brake side there.
We're now going to move over for the finale, which is one of the newest trails here.
It's so fun, big jumps and tables.
Let's see if it will handle it.
Here we go then, into Helter Skelter with the butterflies.
Wow, so funny trying to get used to these.
But steeze levels are still firing.
Still so steezeable.
Flying around there, I'm going to do a bar switch here and back down again.
Oh, insane.
Let's get a bar switch into this.
There we go, we just survived some laps of these ridiculous butterfly bars.
Actually kind of horrible because where I put the brake there,
your hand sort of twisted while you ride it.
Twisted oaks, yeah, that's where we are.
And the other positions are really comfy, but on trails,
to be in a comfy position and then switch to the brakes
is actually a whole new skill that you need to learn.
It's well scary.
But there we go, we had some fun with five super weird handlebars,
and obviously the normal ones to start off with.
And if you have any weird ideas for stuff I should try on a mountain bike,
put it in the comments below.
See you in the next one.
To the sky!
