Sumo Steak Sandwich? Broiling Prototype Stove Stand Test G2 5" Firebox Wood Fired Camping Food

I've had my eye on this area under the Fire-Grate of the 5" Firebox G2 stove since the beginning, wanting to take advantage of that beautiful, soft, radiant heat. Thus far, those downward BTU's only serve to damage wooden picnic tables. In fact, that potential gets solved with the NEW Sumo Stove Stand and its additional heat shielding tray (even with the sumo stand heat shielding tray in place, if you remove the standard ash pan you will once again have the possibility to burn a wooden picnic table. Both levels of heat protection are needed to adequately protect the area under your stove). When I saw the space directly under the Fire-Grate that the Sumo Stands created I got excited to finally find out if the heat down below would be effective to use as a broiler. While this test did show me where improvements can be made, it was a success!

What I learned: Falling ash is fine, but the falling coals do pose a problem. I'm going to try using my adjustable Fire-Grate (which has smaller holes) on top of the standard Fire-Grate (watch for my next test). The space can be limiting. I'm going to try some ideas to see if I can create some height adjustment in that area.

Now that I have proven the concept I can start refining the system to gain as much functional performance as possible. I feel confident saying that you will be able to broil with your G2 5 inch Firebox Stove soon!
