Talia Gibson vs. Jasmine Paolini | 2026 Indian Wells Round of 16 | WTA Match Highlights

That's a nice backhand from Gibson there. It's an unusual shot that Paolini had to make there. She's got a couple set points here. And the opening set belongs to the qualifier from Australia. Her first ever match against a top 10 player and the opening set goes her way. Impressive stuff for a 21 year old. 7-5. Qualifier trying to become the first player from Australia to get into the quarterfinals. Smart. First player to get into the quarterfinals at Indian Wells. Gibson puts it away. Oh, perfectly placed. Fourth deuce of this game. That's a well executed drop shot that time. Sneaky drop shot seals the set for Paolini. So we'll play three on stadium two. Gibson winning the opening set 7-5. Paolini coming back and winning set 2-6-2. Forehand there from Gibson. Oh, that's unfortunate because... Oh, it's good for Paolini. She guessed right. That should have been Gibson's point. She knows it. Well done. So Gibson consolidates the break. That's better. Paolini finally. Match point for Talia Gibson. And there's the winning shot. And a big smile. Why not? Another service return winner. Talia Gibson, the biggest win of her career. First Australian to reach the quarterfinals at Indian Wells in 12 years. What a performance from the qualifier in her sixth match of the week. And the crowd appreciates the hard work and the effort as she takes out the world number seven, Jasmine Paolini. She can't stop smiling, can she? Why not? What a performance from her. Knocked out a top 50 player in round one. Knocked out two top 20 players in the next two rounds. And now sends the world number seven home. Cheers all around to her team who must be ecstatic. And Australia must be ecstatic. Maybe we're seeing a future star in Talia Gibson. Last round of applause for Jasmine Paolini who started off all right but then lost that opening sets.
