Selena Gomez talks New Song "Good For You" and New Album, Her Fans & more!

So we'll let you know. Is this kind of part two of Heart Wants What It Wants? Because a lot of people are saying that this is like an extension of that song. No. I think that it had a life of its own, if you will. That was a chapter for me, and I think that was one of my best songs. It truly is one of my favorite songs, and this now is kind of a little bit new for me. This is a whole new direction. I like what you're doing, though, in the beginning of these songs with kind of like the little monologue beforehand. It reminds me kind of like... How hard did this even come from? It reminds me of Janet Jackson. I loved that stuff, and it's also very... It's nice to be kind of... Explore different types of poetry, if you will. Where did you get that idea? Is it like Janet? Like a moth through a flame? No, right? It kind of is. No. It all just kind of... It just kind of happens. I get inspired, and I'm around a lot of talented people. It's just... It's nice. It just kind of reflects where I am. Yeah. Good. So you're writing what you know. Basically. That's the cardinal rule. Isn't that what they tell you? The basic songwriting 101. If there was a basic... That should be essential, yeah. Yeah. It should be right there. Yeah. What is your day like? What is it like being Selena? Your day. What time did you get up this morning? I don't want to talk about gossipy stuff. No. I want to talk about you. What do you do during the day? I got up at like 8. Yeah? Yeah. I had some coffee. Hang out with my roommates. Like what? Do you have a coffee of choice? Do you have a Starbucks? What's your Starbucks order? I go to Air One. What's that? That's so bougie of me. It's like a... It's just fancy coffee. Do you cook? Do you go out to eat? What do you... I do. What do you do? I cook. I think that's very therapeutic for me. I love kind of throwing things together. I'm horrible at baking though because you have to follow the recipe or else it's just going to taste horrible. So you're not measuring out a teaspoon? No. I kind of just go for it. Wing it. Make chicken and different kinds of pastas. Stir fry. Lettuce wraps. Setting off the fire alarm inside the house probably? Have not done that yet. But I did get a deep fryer and I made chicken and waffles. Yum! It was very successful. Yeah. Good for you. That's not easy. Thanks. Yeah. That's not easy at all. I'm trying it. Trying to get wifed up. Are you getting prepared for that kind of mentality? No. Because I know you have a younger sister now, right? She's two. So do you get kind of your mothering instincts kick in and you hand down some things? I can't wait for her to run away and want to come hang out with me and come to my concerts and hang out. I just can't wait for her to be able to really see me as a big sister. Yeah? Does she know who you are? No. Does she have any idea that you have a gazillion followers and views on YouTube? No. She doesn't care about all that. No. Well, I don't even think she understands that yet. But even when it happens, I don't think she'll... Something's going to click. She's going to go... Just disconnect. Wait a minute. Wait a second. She'll be like, why are you there? I know you. Why are you here? I know you. Your fans, they're very fragile in a way. Do you find that you have to be careful with every little decision? Like if you cut your hair a certain way or do a certain thing, just silly little things. Because it seems like when you do something different, they're all like, I'll do that. Maybe fragile could be the right term, but I don't think that's the case. I make choices based on what I want to do. I think my fans are very passionate. So they kind of know every little thing. And I also invite them in my world, though. So it's like they're kind of welcome into whatever I'm posting. It's not... Yeah. Well, they have to be. You don't have a choice in that. Yeah, but it's like I'm not trying to... Oh, maybe I shouldn't post this. Maybe I shouldn't say that. I'm very honest with them. Yeah. And you're honest. And you are out there a lot. Congrats on the whole Pantene thing. I used to use Pantene Pro-V. Thank you. And I used to work... When I did part-time radio in Portland, I also used to work for a promotion company that would hand out samples of Pantene Pro-V. It's so cool. It's an iconic brand. I'm honestly honored, especially for what they stand for. The whole campaign right now is strong. It's beautiful. And I think that's great. That's what I like to represent. And I think it's been one of the best things they've done. It's so fun. Cool. Yeah. There's something on Instagram that I saw that I have to ask you about. Have you ever looked at that, the people who they suggest based on you? No, I actually didn't even know that. Let me see. So the first one is Demi Lovato. Oh! And Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson. It's like a girl band. But they're all three friends? That's so awesome. I know. But look, it looks like I'm not following them. No, that's me. That means I need to. Here, watch.
