Circle Time with Ms. Monica - Back to School - Preschool Writing & Tracing Review - Letters H - N
Ms. Monica put together Part 2 of her writing lessons from Circle Time with Ms. Monica episodes. In this video you'll find review of letters H - N. If your child is not writing then you can write the letters and allow your child to trace.
Let's start with writing our letter H.
Every letter makes a sound.
And H says h, h, like hand, h, like house, h, like hippo.
H is our letter of the week.
Now, I'm going to go over here to the board and clean our board
so that we can practice writing letter H, uppercase and lowercase.
But while I do that, make sure you go and get your crayon or pencil,
marker, whatever you need to write, and some paper.
I'll meet you over at the board.
Okay, now it's time to write letter H.
I will use my red marker.
Let's start with uppercase H first.
Remember, our uppercase H has three straight lines.
Watch my pointer finger.
Let me show you.
It has a straight line down, another straight line down,
and then a straight line across to connect these two.
Let's practice it over here on the board.
Okay, my red marker, I'll use that.
You can watch first the first time.
Then you can practice with me.
We'll do it together.
Okay, watch the first time.
I'm going to start at the top and draw a straight line down,
and then I'll go back to the top, over a little, draw another straight line down.
Ooh, that's two straight lines.
And then go to the middle and draw a straight line across to connect the two lines.
Uppercase H.
Let's try it together.
Ready?
Okay, here we go.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down.
Go back to the top.
Draw another straight line down.
Go to the middle.
Draw a straight line across to connect the two.
Uppercase H.
Let's do another.
Go to the top.
Draw a straight line down.
Go back to the top.
Draw another straight line down.
Go to the middle.
Draw a straight line across and connect the two.
Let's keep going.
Let's try again.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down.
Go back to the top.
Draw another straight line down.
Go to the middle and draw a straight line across to connect the two.
Let's do two more.
Start at the top, draw a straight line down, go back to the top, draw another straight
line down, go to the middle, and draw a straight line across.
One more.
Uppercase H. Start at the top, draw a straight line down, go back to the top, draw another
straight line down, go to the middle, and draw a straight line across.
Uppercase H. How did you do?
Great. Remember? The more you practice, the better you get.
We just finished uppercase H.
Now I'm going to erase my board so we can practice lowercase H.
Here I go.
Okay, now it's time to practice lowercase H.
Now remember, lowercase H has a straight line and it has a curved line that goes down.
Watch over here. I'll show you with my pointer finger.
Here's our lowercase H.
If you start at the top, you draw a straight line down,
then you go back to the middle, and you curve all the way down.
Just like that.
Now we're going to try it on the board.
I'll try it first, you watch me first, and then we'll do it together.
Okay, lowercase H.
I will start at the top, draw a straight line down,
go to the middle, and draw a curved line down.
Just like that.
Let's do it again.
Now we can do it together.
You ready? Great. Here we go.
Start at the top, draw a straight line down,
go to the middle, and draw a curved line down.
Lowercase H.
Let's try another.
Start at the top, draw a straight line down,
Lowercase H.
Let's keep going.
Another one.
Start at the top, draw a straight line down,
go to the middle, and draw a curved line down.
Again.
Start at the top, draw a straight line down,
go to the middle, and draw a curved line down.
One more.
Start at the top, draw a straight line down,
go to the middle, and draw a curved line down.
Lowercase H.
How did you do?
Great.
Remember again, the more you practice, the better you get.
I.
If you said I, you're correct.
This is the uppercase I, and this is the lowercase I.
That's right.
I is our letter of the week.
Now it's time for us to practice writing letter I.
First, I'm going to show you with my pointer finger.
Watch first, and then we'll do it together over on the board.
I'll write, and you write on your paper at home.
Okay?
So pointer fingers up.
I'm going to start at the top for uppercase I.
Now draw a straight line down, and then go back to the top,
and draw a straight line across.
Now go to the bottom and draw a straight line across.
That's our uppercase I.
Yes.
Now let's start with uppercase I first.
So I'll put this on the board.
Okay, there you go, I.
Now let's go over to our board here for our writing.
Today I think I'll use a green marker, a green marker.
Okay?
Now I'll show you first one time, and then you try next.
We'll do it together.
Let me erase and make some room so we can do this.
Okay, we have enough room.
Are you ready?
Okay.
Watch first, and then we'll do it together.
So the first one.
I start at the top, and then straight line down,
go back to the top, draw a straight line across,
go back to the bottom, and draw a straight line across
for uppercase I.
Now let's do it together.
Start at the top.
Okay, let me find a space at the top.
I'll start here.
Let's draw a straight line down, straight line down,
go back to the top, draw a straight line across,
go to the bottom, and draw a straight line across.
Great.
Let's do it again.
Ready?
Go to the top, straight line down,
go back to the top, and a straight line across,
go to the bottom, and a straight line across.
Great.
Let's keep going.
Find another space.
Start at the top, and draw a straight line down,
then go back to the top, and draw a straight line across.
Whoa.
Now go to the bottom, and draw another straight line across.
Keep going.
Back to the top, straight line down,
now go back to the top, and draw a straight line across.
Now go to the bottom, and draw a straight line across.
Let's do another.
Start at the top, and draw a straight line down,
go back to the top, draw a straight line across,
now go to the bottom, and draw a straight line across.
Uppercase I.
How did you do?
Great.
Remember, the more you practice, the better you get.
So keep on practicing.
Now it's time for us to try lowercase I.
Let's look at our I again.
Here's our lowercase I.
Now I'll use my pointer finger again to show you.
With the lowercase I, we just draw a straight line down,
and then a little dot on the top.
And the lowercase I is a little smaller than our uppercase I,
so it won't be this high.
I'll show you on the board.
Are you ready?
Okay.
Let me put this back on the board.
And now let me erase our board so we have room to write lowercase I.
Okay, great.
I'll use my green marker again.
Let me show you one time.
Watch me first, and then we'll do it together.
Okay, here we go.
So let me show you lowercase I.
We'll start a little in the middle,
and draw a short straight line down,
and then go to the top and draw a dot, just like that.
That's our lowercase I.
Now let's do it together.
Okay, go to the middle, draw a straight line down, a short one.
Now go to the top and draw your dot.
Now you can draw the dot like that, or you can just do a dot like that.
You can just dot, just like that.
Okay, your choice.
Let's try again.
Go to the middle, draw a straight line down, and then a dot.
Again, go to the middle, straight line down, and then a dot.
I'm going to go down here.
Let's keep going.
Straight line down, and then a dot at the top.
Again, straight line down, and then your dot at the top.
Keep going.
Straight line down, dot at the top.
I'm going to do one more.
Straight line down, and then dot at the top.
Ooh, that's lowercase I.
Pretty simple for lowercase I.
How did you do?
Oh, great.
What's so important is that you're trying,
and I want you to keep on practicing.
The more you practice, the better you'll get.
J!
You're correct.
J is our letter of the week.
Uppercase J, lowercase j.
And guess what?
Today, we're going to write the letter J.
Yes, Fridays are for writing.
We love practicing our writing on Friday.
So let's practice writing letter J.
We'll do uppercase J first, and then lowercase j second.
Now, if you look at uppercase J,
I'm going to take my pointer finger and show you.
Uppercase J starts at the top.
And you draw a line down, and then you curve it up
just a little bit.
And then you go back to the top, and you draw a line across.
That's uppercase J.
Now, our lowercase j, pointer finger again,
I'll draw a line down and curve up just a little bit.
Then go back to the top and add a little dot.
Let's try uppercase J first.
Now, if you need to pause the video, you can pause it now.
So you can go and get your paper or notebook
or whatever you have to write with.
And I'll be right here waiting.
I'll put J on the board and meet you over at our writing board.
Now we're ready to write.
I have a red marker for today.
And I'm going to start with uppercase J.
Watch me first, and then we'll try it together.
Okay?
Great.
Watch me first.
Uppercase J.
So I'll start at the top and draw a line down,
then curve up just a little.
See that?
Now go back to the top and draw a straight line across.
There is uppercase J.
Now let's try it together.
Okay.
Find a space on your paper.
Start at the top or on your board.
Start at the top.
Draw a line down, then curve up just a little.
Now go back to the top and draw a straight line across.
Whoo!
Let's do it again.
Find another space.
Start at the top.
Draw a line down, then curve up just a little.
Go back to the top and draw a straight line across.
Whoo!
Let's do it again.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down, then curve up just a little.
Go back to the top and draw a straight line across again.
Again.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down, then curve up just a little.
Now go back to the top and draw a straight line across.
Let's do one more.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down, then curve up.
Now go back to the top and draw a straight line across.
Uppercase J.
How did you do?
Great.
Now remember, the more you practice, the better you'll get.
So keep on practicing.
Now it's time for us to practice lowercase J.
I'm going to erase my board, and then we're going to do the lowercase J.
We'll do it together.
Okay.
Let me erase my board.
Perfect.
Are you ready?
Okay.
Lowercase J.
I'll write the lowercase J first.
You watch first.
Watch, watch, watch.
And then we'll do it together.
Okay.
Here we go.
Perfect.
Now I'm going to do lowercase J.
I'm going to start in the middle, not all the way at the top.
I'll start right here.
Now I'm going to draw a line down, and then curve it up just a little.
And then go back to the top and add a little dot.
That's the lowercase J.
Let's try it together.
Ready?
Okay.
Find the space.
Now start in the middle.
Draw a line down, and then curve up just a little.
Go back to the top and add a dot.
You can do a dot like that, or you can do a dot like this.
Whatever you choose.
Let's do it again.
Start at the top.
Well, in the middle.
Draw a line down.
Curve up.
Now go back to the top and add a dot.
Okay.
Let's do another.
Lowercase J.
Start in the middle.
Draw a line down.
Curve up just a little.
Now go back to the top and add a dot.
Let's do it again.
Start in the middle.
Draw a line down and curve up.
Now go back to the top and add a dot.
And sometimes I like to just go dot.
Just like that.
Okay?
Just one little dot.
Now let's do one more.
One more right here.
Start in the middle.
Draw a line down.
Curve up.
Now go back to the top and add a dot.
Right on top of that J.
Lowercase J.
How did you do?
Oh, wonderful.
Wonderful.
Now remember, the more you practice, the better you'll get.
Keep up.
Oh, this letter comes after the letter J in the alphabet.
It's letter K.
Yes, if you said K, you're correct.
Ooh, very good.
K is our letter of the week.
Now I wonder, which one is the uppercase K and which one is the lowercase K?
I'll point to it and you tell me which one is uppercase and which one is lowercase.
You can shout it out.
Here we go.
This is the uppercase K.
If you said uppercase, you're correct.
Uppercase K, the big K.
And this one is the lowercase K.
Yes, this is lowercase K, the small K.
Uppercase K, lowercase K.
K is our letter of the week.
And now we know every letter makes a sound, and K says K.
Yes, K for kangaroo, K for koala, and K for kite.
Let's put K on the board.
Put K on the board.
And today, my friends, we are actually going to practice writing letter K.
Now, if you're not ready to write the letter K, you can actually trace the letter K.
But I'm going to show you here on our board how you can do it.
And you can try and practice at home.
We can do it together, or you can even practice after circle time.
It's up to you.
So if you need to go and get a pencil or a crayon, go ahead and do that, or a marker.
I'm going to use a marker.
I think I'll start with the red marker today.
I'll start with the red marker.
And I will also start with the uppercase.
Uppercase K. We'll do uppercase K first.
I'm going to do it right here, okay, right here on our board.
We're going to start.
Find a space on your paper or your notebook or whatever you're writing on, okay?
I'm going to start right here.
Take my marker, and I'm going to start at the top.
So we start at the top for uppercase K.
And you draw a straight line down.
Then go to the middle.
Go to the middle.
And you're going to draw a diagonal line up.
Diagonal is kind of to the side.
So go to the middle and draw your diagonal line up.
Just like that.
And then go back to the middle and draw a diagonal line down.
That's our uppercase K.
Let's try it again.
Right here.
I'll start at the top.
Draw a straight line down.
Go to the middle.
Draw a diagonal line up.
Then go to the middle again.
Draw a diagonal line down.
Uppercase K.
Let's try it again.
Find another space.
Start at the top.
Go down.
Go back to the middle.
Draw a diagonal line up.
Back to the middle.
Draw a diagonal line down.
One more uppercase K.
Let's do it.
Start at the top.
Draw a line down.
Go to the middle.
Draw a diagonal line up.
Go back to the middle.
Draw a diagonal line down.
Uppercase K.
How did you do?
Great!
Remember, the more you practice, the better you get.
So you keep on practicing.
Now we're going to try lowercase K.
So I have to get my little rag.
I'm going to clean the board.
I'm going to erase the uppercase K's.
Now while I'm erasing, you find some more space on your paper or in your notebook.
I'm going to change markers and use purple this time for lowercase K.
Now the lowercase K...
Let's turn this way.
Lowercase K is a little bit different.
It's smaller than the uppercase K.
And I'm going to show you how it's different.
So watch me first the first time.
I'm going to start at the top.
And I'm going to draw a line down again.
A straight line down.
But this time, I'm not going to go to the middle.
I'm kind of going to go below.
Right under the middle.
Right here.
And I'm going to draw a short line diagonal and up.
There we go.
And then I'm going to draw...
Go back to that point.
And I'm going to draw another diagonal line down.
Now that's our lowercase K.
So this line is a little bit shorter.
Let me show you again.
Start at the top.
Draw your straight line down.
Now you go to the middle and go under the middle just a little bit.
And you're going to draw a diagonal line up.
And then go back to the middle.
Under the middle a little.
And draw that line down.
See?
With the lowercase K, this line here is much, much longer.
Much longer.
It's taller, I should say.
Okay?
Let's try again.
Okay, go back to the top.
Draw that straight line down.
Now go to the middle and go down a little bit.
Draw this diagonal line up.
And then go back to that point again.
And draw another diagonal line down.
Look at that.
You see that top diagonal line is a little bit shorter than when we do uppercase K.
Just a little bit shorter.
Let's do one more.
Okay.
Start at the top.
Oops.
Start at the top.
Draw your line down.
Now go to the middle and go down just a little bit.
And draw your diagonal line up.
And then go back to that point and draw a diagonal line down.
Lowercase K.
How did you do, my friends?
Remember, the more you practice, the better you get.
Start with letter L.
Let's put L on the board.
I'm going to put my pointer down.
Put L right here.
Letter L.
Now, this is our uppercase L and this is lowercase L.
And today we are going to practice writing uppercase L and lowercase L.
So if you need to go and get a pencil or a marker or a crayon, whatever you have, you can go and do that.
I have my markers right here.
I'm going to practice with you.
I'm going to write the letter L over here on the board.
You can watch me or you can write along.
You know, you can try and we can do this together.
You can practice right along.
Okay.
Today I'm going to use the purple marker to start.
I'll start with a purple marker.
And the first letter we're going to do, we're going to do letter L.
But the first one we're going to do is the uppercase L.
So I want you to watch me first and then we'll do it together.
So watch the first time and then we'll do it together.
Are you ready?
Great.
Okay, so I'm going to do it right here.
I have lots of room right here, starting with uppercase L.
So we're going to start at the top.
Start at the top and draw a straight line down.
Straight line down.
Then draw a straight line across for uppercase L.
Let's try it again.
Start at the top.
Now you can try it with me.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down.
And at the bottom, you're going to draw a straight line across.
There you go.
For uppercase L.
Let's do it again.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down.
Now go to the bottom and draw a straight line across for uppercase L.
Let's do another.
Go back to the top.
Draw a straight line down.
Go to the bottom and draw a straight line across for uppercase L.
Uppercase L.
How did you do?
Wonderful.
Now let's try the lowercase L.
Lowercase L is different from uppercase L, but there are some things that are the same, and it's really, really simple to do.
So we'll practice lowercase L right under the uppercase L.
Now, the thing about lowercase L is it only has one step, which I love.
So simple.
I'm going to use the red marker for lowercase L.
Watch me the first time, and then we'll do it together.
I'm going to start right here for lowercase L.
You start at the top, and you draw a straight line down.
And guess what?
That's it.
A straight line down.
One step to draw lowercase L.
Now let's try it together.
Let's find another spot.
Start at the top and draw a straight line down.
That's lowercase L.
Let's do it again.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down.
That's lowercase L.
Let's do it again.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down.
Whoa.
Let's do it one more time, lowercase L.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line down for lowercase L.
If you want to make it short, I can take some of that off.
Lowercase L, uppercase L.
We did it.
How did you do?
I dropped my pointer.
That's okay.
How did you do?
Wonderful.
Now, my friends, remember, the more you practice, the better you'll get.
Uppercase M and which one's lowercase?
I don't remember.
Can you do me a favor?
Can you point to the uppercase M?
Point to uppercase M.
Great.
Now can you point to lowercase M?
Ooh, good.
If you said this is uppercase, you're correct.
And if you pointed to this one for lowercase, you're correct.
Uppercase M, lowercase M.
M is our letter of the week.
Let's put it on the board.
M, there you are.
Now we said that M says mm, right?
Mm, mouse.
Mm, moose.
Mm, milk.
And there's so many things that you all found that start with letter M this week.
M for Miss Monica.
Yes, M.
My name starts with letter M.
That's right.
Now today, friends, it's time for us to practice writing letter M,
the uppercase M and the lowercase m.
Are you ready?
Okay, get what you need to write.
I'm going to get my markers.
I'm going to use purple today.
Purple's actually my favorite color.
So I'm going to use purple.
You can use whatever you have.
You have a pencil?
Or maybe you have a crayon?
Or you have a marker?
Use what you have.
Let's start with the uppercase M first.
I'll go over here.
I'm going to write it over here on this side.
Oh, I think I have some room here.
Okay?
All right.
So we're going to start with uppercase M.
Watch me the first time, and then we'll do it together.
Are you ready?
Wonderful.
Here we go.
Let's start with uppercase M first.
Here we go.
I'm going to find a space, and we're going to start at the top.
Start at the top.
And I'm going to draw a straight line down.
See that?
Then go back to the top and draw a diagonal line to the middle.
Then go to the middle and draw a diagonal line up here.
Stop.
Then go to the top of that line and draw a straight line down.
Letter M.
Uppercase M.
I'll take some of that off.
Uppercase M.
Okay.
Let's try it again.
This time we'll do it together.
Ready?
Start at the top.
Now draw a straight line going down.
Go back to the top.
Now draw a diagonal line going to the middle.
Right to the middle.
Now go back to the middle.
Draw a diagonal line up.
And stop.
Go to the top of that line and draw your straight line going down.
Uppercase M.
Let's do another one.
Come on.
We can do it.
Find another space.
Start at the top.
Find another space.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line going down.
Go back to the top.
And draw a diagonal line to the middle.
Now go to the middle.
And draw another diagonal line going up.
And stop.
Go to the top of that line and draw a straight line going down.
Uppercase M.
How are you doing?
Wonderful.
One last time, my friends.
One last time.
Let's start over here.
I still have room.
Find some room.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line going down.
Go back to the top.
Now draw a diagonal line going to the middle.
Go to the middle.
Now draw a diagonal line going up.
And stop.
Go to the top of that line and draw your straight line going down.
Uppercase M.
Whoa.
We made four of them.
I made four.
I think you may have made three uppercase M's.
Wonderful.
Now, my friends, it's time for our lowercase M.
Let's see.
I think I can do lowercase right here, right under uppercase.
Are you ready?
Okay.
Watch me the first time.
And then we'll do it together.
Okay?
This time for uppercase M, I'm going to put a little line here just to help me out while I'm doing it.
Okay?
Just like if we were writing on lined paper.
All right?
Now, I'm going to start down at my line and go up a little bit right here to the middle
and draw a straight line down.
Now go to the top.
And this time you're going to draw a curved line.
Curve going down.
Just like that.
Now go to the middle.
Right there at that curved line.
And you're going to draw a line going up and curve down.
Lowercase M.
Let's do another.
Start here, right here in the middle.
Right here in the middle.
Find a space.
Let's do it together.
Okay?
Start right here in the middle.
And you're going to draw a line going down.
Now go back to the top.
And you're going to draw a curved line going down.
And now go to that curved line, to the bottom of it.
Draw a line going up and curve down.
Lowercase M.
Try another.
Okay?
Find another space.
Going to go to the middle here.
Draw a straight line going down.
Now go back to the top.
And draw a curved line going around and down.
Now go to the middle right here at the bottom.
And you're going to draw a line going up and curve down.
Lowercase M.
Now, my friends, you keep on practicing your lowercase M's and your uppercase N's.
Because the more you practice, the better you get.
N!
Oh, if you said N, you're correct, my friends.
N.
This is the uppercase N.
And this is the lowercase N.
And today, we are going to practice writing uppercase N and lowercase N.
Are you ready?
Okay.
Get out something to write with and get something to write on.
We're going to practice letter N.
I'll put it on the board right here.
And I'm going to get my marker so we can write.
I'll write over here.
You find a place to write as well.
Now, my friends, we're going to start with uppercase N.
Okay?
The uppercase N, if you look at it, it has a straight line going down.
It has a diagonal line.
And then it has another straight line going up.
Let's try it.
Let's try it together.
Find a space on your paper or your board if you're using one.
Start at the top.
Let's start at the top.
Okay?
Start at the top.
Now, draw a straight line going down.
Just like that.
Go back to the top.
Now, draw a diagonal line.
Diagonal line going down.
And stop.
Now, it's time to draw another straight line, this time going up.
Draw a straight line going up.
For uppercase N.
Let's try it two more times.
Okay, here we go.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line going down.
Go back to the top.
Now, for your diagonal line, going down.
Stop.
And now, draw a straight line going up.
Uppercase N.
You see that?
Okay, one more time.
Let's try it.
I think I have room right here.
You find some room as well.
And start at the top.
Now, draw your straight line going down.
Go back to the top.
And draw a diagonal line going down.
Touch that line.
And now, draw a straight line going up.
Uppercase N.
We did it.
How did you do?
Remember, the more you practice, the better you get.
So, keep on practicing.
Now, it's time for our lowercase N.
Let's try writing lowercase N.
Now, look at lowercase N.
It's a little shorter than the uppercase N.
And it also has a straight line going down.
But it also has a curved line that curves around and down.
Are you ready?
Let's give it a try.
Okay, find some space for your lowercase N.
We'll try it three times.
I'll do it right here underneath my uppercase N.
Okay, here we go.
Start at the top.
And draw a straight line going down.
A short one.
Not too long.
Not like the uppercase.
Now, go back to the top.
And draw a curved line.
Curve around and down.
For lowercase N.
Okay, let's try another.
Find some space.
And start at the top.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line going down.
Now, go back to the top.
And draw a curved line.
Curve around and down.
For lowercase N.
Yes.
Okay, one last time.
Find another space.
Start at the top.
Draw a straight line going down.
Now, go back to the top.
And draw a curved line.
Curve around and down.
Lowercase N.
Oh, look at that.
We did it.
Uppercase N, lowercase N.
Keep on practicing at home, my friend.
We just started it, but I want you to keep on practicing.
The more you practice, the better you'll get.
