The Mazurkas, Op. 59, are three mazurkas for solo piano by Frédéric Chopin. They were composed and published in 1845.
The mazurka's entry into the world of piano music is primarily thanks to Frédéric Chopin. The Polish composer and piano virtuoso lived in Paris from 1831 onwards, having fled the political unrest in his homeland during the first half of the 19th century, which was caused by Russian foreign rule. While in exile in France, he became a celebrated artist.
It was his longing for Poland that inspired him to compose his mazurkas: wonderfully poetic piano pieces that capture the essence of Polish folk dance and yet are entirely unique. Chopin also expressed his national pride through the mazurkas, using them as a symbol of Poland's freedom.
The video was captured by Simone Schlegel in the Bernese Highlands, Switzerland and edtied by Wenjing Ma.
