I thought you had to be there to appreciate it.
I don't know how it came across on television, because I was there.
But I thought the President, and he doesn't always do this,
but I thought the President struck a very appropriate balance
between domestic and foreign issues.
I thought he talked a lot about the issues domestically
that moms and dads worry about in this country
when they lie down to sleep at night and can't,
including but not limited to the cost of living.
He touched on housing. He touched on health care.
The President announced a number of new legislative initiatives
that he would like us to address.
I need to learn more about them.
As the President explained them, they sound appetizing,
but I've learned to read the bill.
I hope I'm wrong in making this prediction,
but I think most, if not all, of his proposals
can only be passed through reconciliation.
I can't see my Democratic friends, and they are my colleagues,
and I respect them, but I can't see them voting
for the President's initiatives in a bipartisan way.
You saw what I saw last night.
You saw the belligerence, in some cases rudeness,
from the Democratic side.
I'm not saying that Republicans in the past are blameless,
but I think the closer we get to the midterms,
the more difficult it's going to be to pass anything in a bipartisan way.
I hope I'm wrong.
What do you make of the President's assertion that he doesn't need Congress
to extend these current 15% tariffs?
I think you ought to carry your happy ass down there and ask him.
