Set on a north-facing slope overlooking Martis Valley and framed by century-old Jeffrey pines, this Lake Tahoe retreat redefines mountain architecture through fire-resistant design and contextual materiality. Dug into the terrain, the house wraps private sleeping quarters around a sheltered courtyard while a concrete pavilion opens to distant mountain views and southern sunlight. With double concrete walls, basalt flooring, and steel-framed glazing, the home creates a protective yet serene living environment. Designed as a climate-responsive dwelling, the project prioritizes wildfire resilience, passive solar control, and deep integration with the surrounding Sierra Nevada landscape.
