This phrase originates from the saying soft as a brush, referring to the tail of a fox, and also soft meaning dumb. Twit is kind of a sweet word because you can say, oh, you twit. But you can also say, you twit. That's just a silly person, foolish person. What a plonker! That's someone who's just an idiot. All of the other words that came into my head, I wasn't able to use. A pillock is a fool, an idiot, or a twit. I've done it again. There you have it. Classic British insults used in good health. You twit. Incompetent as always.
