China’s mental health system has always been disturbing. Now it’s outright criminal. An undercover investigation exposed psychiatric hospitals admitting healthy people, faking diagnoses, abusing patients, and scamming government insurance for profit. Some patients were trapped for years. Others were beaten for “disobedience.” And authorities still claim everything is fine. Here’s what the CCP doesn’t want you to see.
I don't know if an episode has ever made me more furious than this one.
Welcome to China Uncensored, I'm Chris Chappell.
This is going to be a really dark and disturbing episode.
The kind the CCP doesn't want you to see.
So let's start with some good news, how about?
Last week, I launched Operation Honeypot 2, Electric Poogaloo.
To keep China Uncensored going, I still need at least 1,600 people
to head over to ChinaUncensored.tv and subscribe.
And I want to thank all the China Uncensored viewers
who have heeded my call to join my 50 cent army so far.
Some of you are like Philippines Waterfalls and Ben Hoover,
who joined because they understand the threat of the CCP
and appreciate how China Uncensored keeps them ahead of the curve.
Or like Higgs, who joined for the first time after watching my content for 10 years.
And some of you are like That Tweedle, who just wants an amazing coffee mug.
Remember, that only goes for the first 200 people
who join with a new annual premium plan.
We're almost out of these limited edition Made in America mugs,
so if you want one, act now.
I'll have a special update about Operation Honeypot at the end of the show,
so be sure to stick around.
Anyways, to hear pro-CCP shills on social media tell it,
China is a medical paradise, so advanced that it puts the rest of the world to shame.
Well, it does something to the rest of the world, that's for sure.
I mean, look at all this technology.
You can definitely trust China to look after your health,
especially if you're a Falun Gong practitioner or Uyghur with a healthy set of organs.
But contrary to what flashy Chinese videos may have you believe,
China's healthcare system is absolutely broken.
There's tons of fake documentation.
And fake medicine.
Not to mention tons of cover-up scandals.
And over-prescription.
Basically, if Halloween II took place in a Chinese hospital,
Michael Myers would be like,
oh man, they already killed everybody here.
Then there's China's mental health industry.
It's absolutely terrifying.
In the CCP's China, psychiatric treatment is used to silence
Chinese critics who have anti-government views.
But it turns out, you don't have to stand against China's government
to end up in a mental hospital.
You could just be poor.
Earlier this month, Chinese investigative journalist Han Futao
exposed a massive insurance fraud scheme at psychiatric hospitals in Hubei province
involving fake mental health diagnoses, treatments, and discharges.
All so that the hospitals could collect money from the government
for taking care of their patients.
Which is insane.
Is that insensitive to say, discussing this topic?
I'll try to be more sensitive and just call it cuckoo bananas.
Han is the same man who exposed how fuel tankers
delivering chemical products also transported cooking oil without being cleaned.
This time, he went undercover as a caretaker and a patient's family member
to discover exactly what's happening at these psychiatric hospitals.
And it's bad.
According to Han, multiple private psychiatric hospitals lured people,
including those from rural villages, into their systems
with promises of free care with medical and living expenses.
As well as free transportation.
That should have been their first clue this was a scam.
Everyone knows the rules of the road.
There are no free rides.
It seemed like a dream, especially for elderly folks
who are having a hard time taking care of themselves.
But as with all things that sound too good to be true,
it was not what it promised.
For one, the hospital's own nurses, caregivers, and security guards
were registered as patients.
Talk about the inmates running the asylum.
On top of that, the hospitals had patients—I repeat, patients—
doing everything we'd expect staff to do, like washing dishes,
cleaning wards and toilets, carrying supplies,
and even taking care of other patients.
Only for some of them to be charged tons of money in the end.
That'd be like going to Disneyland and telling your kids
they're going to spend all day working in the gift shop.
Now pay the park $150 for each entry.
If that's not strange enough, the hospitals were also admitting
perfectly healthy people and diagnosing them with mental illnesses.
If I was there, they'd probably try to detain me
for an acute sense of hulkamania, brother.
The goal was to get as many patients as possible
and keep them around for as long as possible.
It's like they saw one flew over the cuckoo's nest
and thought, now there's a great business model.
The more patients on the books,
the more money coming from the Chinese government.
Which meant nobody could leave.
To keep patients around as long as possible,
hospitals would even restrict contact between patients and their families—
the same kind of tactics that scammers use.
Only the hospitals were going above and beyond
by forcing patients to hand in their mobile phones
and warning people who come across them
not to help patients indirectly communicate with the outside world.
The one time taking away your phone is actually worse for your well-being.
Many patients stayed for years,
some even as long as 8 or 9 years.
What you might think would seem suspicious,
but the hospitals had a trick up their sleeve.
In order to prevent auditors from catching on,
hospitals periodically discharged patients only to readmit them immediately.
One patient was apparently discharged 6 times
between June 5, 2024 to December 5, 2025,
each time being readmitted on the same day.
Though in reality, he hadn't even left the hospital during that entire time.
It's like saying you're catching and releasing a fish
by tossing it from one hand to another.
Of course, since the point of the scam was to get money from the government,
the treatment in these hospitals was...less than stellar.
Han witnessed medical staff slapping,
kicking, and even beating patients with water pipes.
Yes, water pipes.
Because apparently the best form of treatment
is the kind that literally beats you into wellness.
And also, who just has water pipes lying around?
That's a specific kind of cruelty.
One male nurse was not shy about it.
He flat out told Han that if you disobey,
you definitely get a beating.
In one instance, on December 13,
a nurse kicked a patient, dragged him to a bed,
and slapped him on the head repeatedly
because the patient didn't want to take a nap.
So what, you tried to give him a coma?
This kind of behavior was not an outlier, but the norm.
In another instance, on December 28,
Han spotted a patient tied down to a bed.
Why was he restrained?
Did he have some kind of mental breakdown
and threatened to hurt himself or others?
Was he possessed by the devil
and they were waiting for an exorcist to show up?
Nope.
He was strapped onto the bed
because he was talking back to medical staff.
Not only is that inhumane,
it's just stupid.
You should have put a strap over his mouth, not his hands.
He can still talk back to you, dummies.
And according to the patient himself,
he's not the only one to have been restrained
simply for crossing medical staff.
Others were constrained for similar reasons.
One person was allegedly tied up for three days and three nights.
One patient who had been hospitalized for five years
told Han,
being hospitalized is like being in prison,
equivalent to serving five years in jail.
I never thought I'd say this,
but I think I'd prefer prison.
At least you don't get beaten for not wanting a nap.
Elderly people have even reportedly died in these hospitals
to health complications
because they were unable to get discharged.
One patient who reportedly had no history of mental illness
even committed suicide due to the conditions,
all while medical staff kept silent.
When they diagnose someone with a mental illness,
are they betting on which one
they're trying to inflict on the person?
Me, I'm betting on a phobia of hospitals.
I bet a lot of people who lived through China's zero COVID could relate.
Many patients reportedly got worse after being hospitalized.
I can see why.
For example, one person said that their sister's condition worsened at a hospital
and that she eventually became bedridden.
The story went viral,
and it drew so much outrage that Chinese authorities
conducted probes on mental hospitals.
But the conclusions they made were very strange.
They acknowledged there was widespread medical fraud
and patients remaining hospitalized after recovery,
but they concluded that the hospitals did not admit patients
who did not have mental disorders.
Which is a pretty strange conclusion to come to,
given that that was the core of the entire scheme.
Meanwhile, former editor-in-chief of my favorite Chinese state-run media,
the Global Times, Hu Xijin,
applauded Han for exposing the hospitals.
But he also said journalists need to be as cautious as possible
and do as much verification as possible when making key accusations.
I guess several weeks of reporting what he was seeing firsthand
wasn't verifiable enough.
Hu, and by extension the CCP,
probably don't want people digging too deep into this scandal.
For one thing, scandals make the CCP look bad,
and they can't have that.
But looking into mental hospitals?
Well, that's especially bad,
since we know what the CCP does with those.
If anything, the CCP is probably just mad that the hospitals
aren't doing this exclusively to dissidents.
Way to waste some perfectly good crimes against humanity.
Yes, if there's anyone the scammers can look up to for inspiration,
it's the CCP.
The CCP hates things when it loses money to fraud,
but it hates it even more when people see
how utterly broken China and its institutions are.
By, you know, reporting what they see firsthand.
It gets people to start questioning the CCP's competency,
and even its legitimacy.
That's why, rather than fix problems in a transparent way,
the CCP cracks down on people looking deeper into scandals,
like school bullying cases,
mysterious celebrity deaths,
and more.
If you want to know how much more,
just scroll through this channel's list of videos for about 90 hours.
The biggest scammers in China are not the ones running scummy hospitals
or any one institution across the nation,
but the CCP itself.
We need people to become more aware of this,
especially in 2026,
because it seems that people are getting even more scammed
by buying into the CCP's false narratives
and thinking their hospitals are medical marvels
and not slaughterhouses with higher kill counts than Michael Myers.
Now this is the kind of story the CCP doesn't want you to see.
And neither does YouTube.
It's also the kind of story that people absolutely need to see
so they don't just fall for CCP propaganda.
But I can only keep doing these stories with your help.
I know that I've been saying this over and over,
but I can't stress enough how bad the situation has gotten.
I still need more than 1,600 people to join my 50-Cent Army,
