Hey, Monika here and in this video I'm going to teach you three simple basic moves that
are perfect for dancing at a wedding.
And stick around till the end of this video, at the end I'm going to show you how you
can combine those movements and how to transition between them so you can look most natural
when you're dancing.
I'm happy to announce that a couple of spots have opened up for a free one-on-one consultation
with me to join my Confidence Through Dance online program, so if you're interested
in setting it up, wait till the end of this video for the announcement on how to do that.
All those movements today will be pretty basic, so let's say you have a wedding coming
up and you're like in panic mode because you cannot dance, this is what you can do.
So the first movement we're just going to simply walk.
So you should be able to know this one.
On every beat you're going to drop the foot down, down, down, like this.
So not much to it, again if we just keep it footwork it will look very, very stiff so
we will need to add a little bit of torso twist to it.
So notice that I'm twisting always to the foot that I put down, like I want to face
that side, right, face that foot.
And you keep switching, keep the arms bent, arms are relaxed, and after you have that
motion going on, we're going to travel with it.
So very small steps, usually at weddings you have some space to dance, it's not like a
club.
So you can move around, you can go forward, back, a few steps, diagonally, around, I'll
show you how to do all that, just so, you know, you're just walking to the beat.
You're dancing but you're not dancing, so it's not too intimidating, right, you can
go one way, come back, you're dancing with one person, then you're dancing with somebody
else, you're moving around, and it's always that step on the beat.
Our next movement is something in place, so let's say the dancefloor is crowded, you don't
have much room to move around, we're going to stay in place, and one of the basic, basic
moves I love to teach to beginners is the heel in.
All you're going to do is on the beat, you'll turn the heel slightly inwards, small angle,
not all the way, not 90 degrees.
One of the options I love to do that I find works always for beginners is a little arms
cross and open.
We're going to open the arms on the snare, this will be our accent, so every single time
the heel goes in, you're going to have the arms open, every time you reset, you're going
to cross the arms slightly in front of you, and then you repeat the same action.
So slowly, it will go like this, cross, open, cross, open, okay, notice the arm movement
is not big, I'm not swinging far, you don't want to look like this, and you don't want
to have the arms stiff and just moving, kind of staying on the same level.
So you want to bring them lower, bend the elbows more, bring the arms higher, and keep
them very, very loose, okay, because we want the swinging motion and not the robotic cross
open motion like this.
What I like to mix in with the cross and open is a little elbows back action, not much
to it, again it's a swing, but you're just swinging the elbows back slightly, okay, and
I'm going to do it randomly, so let's say we start with the footwork, we have heel in
on the snare, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, I'm going to first add the arms, cross, open, cross, open,
remember every time heel goes in, arms are open, and then, randomly, I'm going to do
maybe 2-3 swings of the elbows back, and then back to cross and open, okay, so it's a mix
of arm movements, you're not doing the same thing over and over, but it's going to look
much more natural than just keeping the arms down and just moving the feet.
For our next movement, we're going to also stay in place, and for this one, the torso
will be the main attraction, you're going to be twisting 3 times, and on beat 4, you're
going to keep the torso centered, so it will look like this, twist, twist, twist, middle,
and then twist, twist, twist, middle. It's important that you are letting the body
kind of go with the twist, so don't be so stuck, you know, with the feet planted and legs straight,
and you're just twisting the upper body, and nothing is moving, let the body shift weight
a little bit, and following this twisting motion, just so it looks more natural, okay?
So keep everything loose here, let's try again, just the twisting with the snap in the middle,
5, 6, 7, 8, twist, twist, twist, middle, twist, twist, twist with the count, 1, 2, 3, middle on 4,
1, 2, 3, 4. Now, we're going to add a little snap, just so we're not on beat 4 just holding still,
okay? So the snapping motion, the hitting motion is something that will make this movement look
more natural, I feel like. Let's see, slowly start the twist, we have twist, twist, twist,
snap, hit, twist, twist, twist, again, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4. Alright, so we're going to start
with our first move, which was the walk, let's see, 5, 6, 7, we have 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2,
go forward, back, and again, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, you can stay in place also, in case the dance floor
is crowded, good, next one, heel in, 1, 2, 1, 2, and then once you have the feet, add the arms,
let's go cross, open, and then swing the elbows back whenever the heel goes in, good,
cross open again, let's do one more transition for the arms,
and then our torso move, we have twist, twist, twist, snap,
so this is how you connect the three movements together, but how do you actually have the
confidence and build the confidence for doing those movements in front of other people, for
example at a wedding. As I mentioned before, a couple of spots have opened up for a free one-on-one
consultation with me, where we're going to identify your dance goals and see if I can help you inside
my confidence through dance program, who I typically work with is adults, men and women,
who struggle with not knowing what to do on the dance floor, not having the skills, having what
I call dance floor anxiety, where you don't want to get out on the dance floor and do anything in
front of other people, so if you're one of those people, feel free to book a consultation, you can
find the link below this video and I'll be happy to talk to you, and I'm also teaching a free
masterclass, where I'll be explaining my three-step system on how to build those permanent skills and
how to build the confidence, so you will learn the exact three-step system that I used on myself
and on thousands of my clients in the past, so if you're interested in joining the masterclass,
link to register is also below this video. I hope this video was helpful to you, if it was,
