Abandoned Prison Set Discovered Inside a Former Military Base
Inside this abandoned building at the former CFB Downsview, we discovered something completely unexpected, a full prison movie set, still standing inside an old military hangar in Toronto.
Yesterday I shared photos and a short preview from this explore. Today you’re seeing the complete exploration.
Building 60 was once part of one of Canada’s largest aviation and military complexes, serving for decades as a working hangar at CFB Downsview. After the base closed in the 1990s, the massive interior spaces were later used by Toronto’s film industry to build and store movie and television sets.
What we found inside was surreal.
An entire abandoned prison range with cells, bars, and segregation areas still intact. Upstairs, a full boxing gym set frozen in time. Throughout the building were pieces of different fictional environments, left behind and slowly decaying inside this forgotten hangar.
It’s one of the strangest intersections of military history, filmmaking, and urban exploration I’ve ever seen.
