Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short are spilling the 'E-Tea' about all things 'Only Murders in the Building,' as they celebrate season 4 of the comedy-drama. The trio dishes on what they've learned from each other over the years, who they'd like to help them solve a murder mystery in real life and more. Plus, Martin Short shares his experience working with his on-screen love interest, Meryl Streep, the actress he's been rumored to be dating for the last eight months. 'Only Murders in the Building' is out now on Hulu.
You dirty pantal.
Where is my bicycle?
Alright guys.
Ready?
Hi, I'm Steve Martin.
And I'm Martin Short.
Yay!
And I'm Selena Gomez and we are spilling the E-tea.
Oooh!
You guys know that reference? Spillin' the tea?
You taught it to us last season I think so.
Yeah!
I think so.
Oh look at you.
Oh, that's good tea.
Ok, I have some questions.
Yes, I want to hear them.
My friends, my dear friends.
Martin.
Yes.
The fans love seeing you and Meryl's dynamic.
How much fun is it to be able to work with your friend in this?
And how special is that relationship?
You two are so funny.
Well, thank you very much.
I'm telling you, you know, obviously working with Meryl Streep is a dream for any actor.
I'm so in love with you.
And I love you too.
And, you know, I've been doing this a long time, but when the first day I shot with her,
I drove to the studio going, ooh, I'm quite nervous.
Aww.
Isn't this odd? Yeah.
I love that.
Alright, you guys go.
Oh.
So, clearly Selena needs to learn the art of the follow-up question.
Cause the world is convinced Martin and Meryl are more than just friends.
Especially after holding hands at the Only Murders premiere a couple of weeks ago.
But for now, we'll give her a pass.
Alright, here we go.
Selena.
Yeah.
You called Martin and I best friends to you forever.
Looking at the last few years, how do you think you have grown throughout your time on this show?
Well, I truly, truly meant that you guys have set a wonderful example for me.
And I'm very grateful for that when it comes to your professionalism, your everything.
You know, you guys have just been wonderful influences.
I just find it easier to be professional.
Rather than kind of nutty and difficult.
It's just easier.
Well, that's not how he works, though.
No, that's not.
But he can't be corralled.
I can't have one without the other.
See, it's a combo.
A combo that keeps on winning.
Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building is streaming now on Hulu,
with new episodes dropping Tuesdays, and the show just got renewed for Season 5.
Holy doe, I am back, baby!
I have a question.
This season gets the Hollywood treatment, Selena.
Yeah.
But if there was really a murderer in your building,
which three celebs in your phone contact list would you call to solve it?
I don't know.
Anderson Cooper or...
That's a good one, Anderson Cooper.
Anderson Cooper would be a good one.
Good to think.
If I went to my phone list, I'd probably phone Obama.
Oh, that's going to do it.
The Pope and Andy Dick.
Great.
Okay.
All of the things I've taught you to keep you guys young,
TikTok, Instagram, lingo, what is one thing that's stuck with you the most?
Well, you know, to keep me young, you know, it doesn't apply.
I'd recommend some surgeons.
Okay, can I answer it for you?
Yeah, go ahead.
You don't know how to work Instagram.
I find it a little difficult, and I was a Twitter master.
No, you were.
I don't know.
Yeah, because that was very simple,
but now I get confused with the lingo between reels and posts,
and this disappears in collaborations.
But I just...
You have helped me many times, yeah.
But you have to be sitting next to me on the set in order to do it.
It's true, it's true.
Yeah.
My character is still so passionate about playing Brazos,
you are turning back to your roots in Wizards of Waverly Place.
How special is it to be able to have characters that stick with you?
It is an absolute honor to bring back something that was so important to me
and crucial to why I'm here today.
And we got to bring families together,
and I just loved the camaraderie,
and I hope that we can bring that to a new generation.
So I'm excited.
And I'm just going to add, about characters that stick with you,
I realize I have done more movies because Marty's in them.
Oh, if he's doing it, I'll do it.
Yeah.
Including this.
Yeah, you're right.
If he does it, I'll do it.
You're right.
Well, I have a question for you, Steve.
Wow.
Then why do you have to read it if it's so important to you?
Because...
No, because first of all...
This is supposed to be a very important question to you,
and yet you're like this.
No, I don't need this.
It's almost like...
You don't need it.
Okay, you don't need it.
All right, guys.
Ready?
Yeah.
Eugene Levy is playing your...
No, I'm Steve, but go ahead.
All right.
Eugene Levy is playing your character in a movie adaptation
of the podcast, but...
Podcast.
But who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?
I...
You know, I've gone through many decades of my life,
so the first thing I have to know...
No wedding.
What decade are you talking about?
You know, because I'd go with...
In my 20s, I would go with Leonardo DiCaprio.
In my 30s, I'd go with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Count me in.
I know who would be perfect to play you.
Who would be?
But unfortunately, Angela Lansbury is no longer with us.
Okay.
Oh, don't be silly.
Selena, you are getting ready to play someone I know,
Linda Ronstadt.
How excited are you, and can I have a cameo in the movie?
Oh!
I can play myself, if you know what I mean.
Well, I would be delighted.
Yes, you heard it right.
Steve dated the music legend back in the day,
but the relationship was short-lived because...
I'm a little nervous.
In the early days, in my 20s, I went to the Troubadour,
I was working at the Troubadour,
and she was working at the Troubadour,
and I was just completely infatuated with her.
And she was exciting and funny and sharp and everything.
And then I started dating her.
And I dated her.
And then, after three weeks of dating her,
she turns to me and says,
Steve, do you often date women and not try to sleep with them?
Because you were too intimidated.
I was too intimidated.
Back to Selena's next big gig.
She's already prepping to play the 11-time Grammy winner.
The film is currently in pre-production.
I'm honored and really am a huge fan
and feel like, in a way, I know her.
And I obviously don't know her the way you do,
but I'm very big fan.
She's a great, great artist.
Oh, my God.
She was always a great artist.
Yeah, I'm a little nervous.
Okay.
Well, now I have a really, really big one.
This question that I'd love to tell you.
So, you have both been in this business for decades
and have worked together for decades.
But what do you remember most about meeting me for the first time?
What was your first impression?
I know what mine was because I met Marty.
We were starting on Three Amigos.
And now I don't know him that well.
And I'm walking to the set.
And from behind me, as we're walking to the set outdoors,
I hear Katharine Hepburn say,
Where's my bicycle?
I was like, What was that?
And it was Marty, as Katharine Hepburn,
asking for her bicycle.
Well, mine was in here in makeup.
That's right.
I saw you on Zoom, but it was in person.
I know.
You were so lovely and you gave me the biggest hug.
I know.
And I felt, I was like, Oh, I feel better.
And I had the same apprehension.
I wonder what Selena's like.
And then I saw you sitting in that makeup chair
and you looked up at me and I went,
We're home.
It's all going to be perfect.
It's always been so good.
We spilled the tea.
That was fun.
Spilling the tea, guys.
