Snooze fast.
Astronaut.
I was not supposed to answer that question.
I don't want to ask you.
Why are you exposing me?
Let me get in there.
Ian's becoming British the more time we spend together.
I'm Mason Thames.
And I'm Nico Parker.
Today we are interviewing each other about our new film How to Train Your Dragon with Capital Buzz.
Let's start at the very beginning.
Mason, do you remember when we first met?
What was your first impression of me?
I'm so interested in this answer.
Well, I slightly blacked out because I was very nervous and it was the chemistry read.
But I remember you were very sweet.
It looked like you'd probably been there.
I think you were already there for the whole day.
Been there for hours.
Yeah, it looked like you were very calm.
Or maybe you weren't, but you looked calm to me.
And that calmed me down a little bit.
It made me feel a little bit better.
And we were doing the scene and she messed up like two lines.
Or laughed.
I don't remember what happened.
And it made me feel so good.
It made me feel so calm and at ease.
And she did it on purpose to make me feel better.
I started laughing when he said something funny because I could tell he was nervous.
That was the sweetest thing ever.
So that was a great first impression.
Very sweet.
Yeah.
My turn.
How many times did you audition for Asher in How to Train Your Dragon?
You said that you've had nightmares about people seeing your audition tape.
Why is that?
God.
Why is that?
Mason's becoming British the more time we spend together.
I know.
Not in our land.
No.
Not on our sacred, sacred land.
How many times?
I auditioned three times, twice on my own, once chemistry read with you.
A nightmare about audition tape.
I mean, it's just awful.
I also heard that they made you do cartwheels for your audition.
Is that true?
No, they actually did not.
Is this true?
However, what they did make me do.
The fans want to know.
No.
What they did make me do, which actually the idea of anyone seeing this causes physical
convulsions is they made me, they were like, because one of the scenes that I had to read
on my own was like a scene flying the dragon and I like touched toothless and they were
like, and I was like, do you want me to do anything or like, you know, whatever.
And they were like, yeah, if you could just pet.
And I was like, pet?
And they were like, yeah, just pet.
And I was like, yes.
Was it like a Zoom?
No, it was with Dean in person.
And I was like, obviously you'll pet.
In addition, I told you I had somebody get on the floor in a black hoodie and I had to
touch their head.
There's something there.
The video of me would be me being like, the idea of anyone seeing that is mine.
Well, I'm looking at a grown man on the floor going, cute little buddy.
Cute little buddy.
But yeah.
All right, your turn.
How To Train Your Dragon has so many iconic scenes that fans love from the original movie.
What scenes were you most nervous to film as the legendary hiccup horrendous Haddock
III and why?
What a name.
One of my favorite scenes that I was nervous and excited about was the cliff thing.
I talk about it a lot.
But also the scene with me and Stoic where we're yelling at each other.
I wasn't exactly nervous for that.
I just kind of, I don't know.
It was just a really special scene for me.
And I was really excited to go into that with Jerry and work on it and just pour a lot of
raw energy into it.
So probably that one.
Fans are already making fan edits of Hiccup and Astrid.
If we could choose a song that perfectly represents each of our characters, what would it be?
I said folk music to Mason for Hiccup the other day and he did not like that at all.
So maybe not that.
I think something Destiny's Child for Astrid.
Maybe Survivor.
Maybe.
Because that music video feels appropriate.
I've gone insane.
You're like 30.
No, but do you not?
That's a 30 year old choice.
Destiny's Child?
Yeah.
You're a baby.
I am a baby.
Mason doesn't know culture.
I love we say this, we're two years apart.
I don't know what song for Hiccup.
Hiccup is like test drive from the original score.
I feel like it's just perfect.
Easy answer, but fair.
But it feels appropriate.
That's appropriate.
I'd say so.
I just know that you don't have an answer to this.
In the film, Hiccup discovers he has a hidden talent for dragon training.
What's one thing you're secretly good at that has nothing to do with acting?
Secretly good at...
There's nothing to do with acting.
Sports.
That's exact...
I was just thinking that.
Really?
Yeah, but I didn't know if I was going to say it.
No sports.
Yeah, I'm...
Mason's so sporty, it's ridiculous.
I've played a good amount of sports, but I've played baseball.
Mostly football.
American football, that was like my jam.
Everybody on my team called me the Flash, because I was...
I was a little short kid, but I was really fast.
So, yeah, I was the Flash.
So cute.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
How to Train Your Dragon is a live-action adaptation of an iconic animated movie.
If we could remake another animated film together,
what would that be, and who would we play?
Oh, I love that.
Oh, I feel like I know what you're going to say.
I'm excited by whatever you think it is.
I don't have one.
Well, just answer.
Me and you could be in...
Is this in it?
This is elevator music, because you're taking forever.
I don't know.
What were you going to say?
I was just going to say Hercules.
Oh, my God.
This is already on my head.
Yeah, sure.
Let's campaign.
But that was just for you.
But, I mean, are you kidding?
That's such a big part.
Jump in it, too.
Let me get in there.
I'm a 21.
Not anyone important watching.
Hercules is a good one.
I mean, I feel like all of them, maybe.
Maybe Shrek.
We're taking over.
Shrek.
Oh, yeah.
Long before Hiccup and Ash had become close friends,
Hiccup has an obvious crush on her.
Duh.
Who were your celebrity crushes growing up?
Megan Fox.
Definitely one of them.
In what?
Like Transformers?
Yeah.
As a kid, that was like...
I didn't...
She was not real to me.
That was a goddess.
She still is.
Still is.
But I have to choose another one?
Do you have another one?
I can think of one.
Go on.
Who's the girl in...
Quit clicking.
Mason couldn't click before this press tour started.
Why are you exposing me?
Because he's learned.
I was proud of it.
I did it so nonchalantly, too.
When they ask you what your secret talents are.
That one wasn't as good.
It's okay.
Let's just go with Megan Fox.
I can't think of one.
Okay.
Being a dragon trainer is one of the coolest imaginary jobs of all time.
If you could have any other job that wasn't acting, what would it be?
Oh, I'd like to be a writer.
I really liked English at school.
And so writing in some capacity.
I don't know what.
I don't know.
Snooze first.
Astronaut.
I think maybe...
Thank you for that interjection.
Really good interviewing.
Have you ever done that to someone when they've been answering?
I think...
Yeah, a writer in what capacity, I don't know, but writing.
I'm going to space.
So, yeah.
I was not supposed to answer that question.
No one asked you what you would do.
All right, ask me.
Go ahead and ask me a question.
Now is your chance to ask me anything.
What are you desperate to know my answer to?
I don't know.
I actually don't know.
I feel like we speak quite a lot.
We do speak quite a lot.
It's like we don't really need to get anything off our chests.
I also feel like I ask you most questions that come to mind.
That is true.
It might be invasive.
Maybe.
Like, they ask.
Yeah, they are.
But, you know, that's okay.
I don't really know.
My favorite random question to ask people is like,
what's your favorite flavor of toothpaste?
Spearmint?
Not mint?
Ooh, spearmint.
Also, spearmint tea is better than peppermint tea, I would say.
Hot take.
Mason's never cared about anything less in his life
than me speaking about what type of mint tea is better than the other.
No question.
I'm thinking.
No question.
When I give an answer, you don't even care.
Hold on.
Wait.
Ask the question again.
I got this.
Watch.
Now's your chance to ask me anything.
What are you desperate to know my answer to?
You made me ask you again.
Hold on.
I'm still thinking.
I have one, but I'm still thinking.
Okay, what's something that I do that annoys you?
Something that you do?
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, love this question.
Something that you do that annoys me.
You know what?
You don't do much that annoys me.
Oh, come on.
I have to do something.
No, I'm trying to think of when we were filming,
because you definitely annoyed me.
You're fine now.
Oh, Mason likes the same color of Skittles.
That's a joke.
What are you talking about?
No, but I feel like my favorite ones are the red ones.
Oh, yeah, I like the red ones, yeah.
And your favorite ones are the red ones,
and Mason would eat the red ones in the packet.
Oh, this is what you're talking about, yeah.
And then he would give the packet, and I would be, like, scouring.
Well, no, no, it would piss me off,
because she would come up to me on set,
and I'm, like, eating my Skittles.
It's my little cheat thing.
And she'd be, like, can I have the red ones?
And I'm, like, all right.
And every now and then he'd be, like, yeah, fine.
And then because he knew I was going to do it,
he would start eating all the red ones first.
So then I would go over and be, like, can I have one of these?
And he would have eaten them.
That's really not bad.
No, you're not that annoying.
No, you're not either.
So, yeah.
Now is your chance to ask me anything.
What are you desperate to know?
Yeah, my answer, too.
It's difficult, right?
Don't answer that.
It's probably me.
I wasn't going to say it.
If you could work with one person,
who would it be and why?
I mean, it changes a lot, but...
No.
Dream dinner party guest.
Um...
Because that can kind of be similar
and also just don't fit into the industry stuff.
I'm going to go with...
Wait, can it be, like, fictional?
Yeah.
Jack Sparrow.
Nice.
So many stories.
Yeah, I feel like that would be a fantastic dinner party.
That would be an incredible, incredible dinner.
Very good answer.
It's a good answer, huh?
Okay, we have to rate each other's interview skills.
Out of 10?
Oh, probably about a 5.
A 5?
Mine is a 5.
Yours is a 4.
You said mid-answer, boring,
and then answered the question yourself.
You went boring and then said, I'd be, and I said, wrong.
So you can get a solid 4.
I think I get...
What would you give us?
Tens, obviously.
Don't think I was going to be boring.
Wait, wait, wait.
Who's your favourite?
As an interviewer, not as a person.
Honestly, the PR lady's my favourite.
Damn it.
You know what?
She's PR trained.
Well, thank you so much for letting me sit back.
Thank you so much.
I do actually give you tens.
It was good.
Hell yeah.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
There was a little problems here and there.
It feels maybe like a lie, but I'll take it.
But I'll take what I can get.
Congratulations.
Thank you so much.
Thank you for coming in.
That was so emotional.
Have a great evening.
