It was a busy afternoon for the Springfield Fire Department after crews
were called to two fires just hours apart. 22 News reporter Kayleigh Thomas
live in studio after learning several people are now without a home. According
to Springfield Fire Captain Drew Pamonte, crews were first called to a
fire on Sycamore Street. When our crews arrived, we saw heavy smoke coming
through the roof. Pamonte says the fire was caused by an electrical
malfunction in a third floor apartment and has left eight people without a
home. We're now being assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries were
reported and two dogs were rescued from the fire originating in the third
floor attic and extended into the roof and through the roof area. Springfield
Fire crews reported to a second fire on Union Street. This is what our 22 news
crews saw when they arrived. Pamonte says there are no reported injuries and
no one was displaced. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and
remains under investigation. Working for you. Kelly thomas 22 News
