It's official! Starbucks got rid of the java chip frappuccino. But don't worry,
I'll show you how to make this homemade version in just a few easy steps.
It's creamy, chocolatey, and way easier than you'd think.
So let's get started.
You can start by brewing a single shot of espresso.
Or if you're an espresso lover like me, you can brew a double shot.
If you don't have an espresso machine, no worries.
Just use four ounces of very strong coffee.
Once the espresso is ready,
go ahead and put it in the fridge so it can be cooling while we move on to other steps.
For step two, add one and a half cups of ice to your blender.
This is enough ice to make sure this is cold enough to be considered a frappuccino.
And now that the ice is ready, it's time for the next step.
Step number three.
And for this step, we're going to bring back an old friend.
Well, I guess it's not that old. It's the espresso from step number one.
And when you pull it out of the fridge, it will be cool enough to use.
One quick tip.
If you're planning on serving this to little kids, I'd skip the espresso.
The last thing we need is more kids bouncing off the walls.
Okay, since you're still with me, go ahead and pour the espresso or coffee into your blender.
Next up, we need one cup of milk.
It can be any kind of milk.
Even non-dairy oat milk works great.
I ended up using 2% milk.
And when you have your one cup of milk ready,
go ahead and pour it into the blender with the other ingredients.
Only three ingredients left until blending.
And next up, it's chocolate sauce.
We'll need three tablespoons.
I always recommend chocolate sauce rather than chocolate syrup.
The sauce is thicker and richer, and it has a deeper cocoa flavor.
When you have your three tablespoons of chocolate sauce ready, add it to the blender.
And the next ingredient is two tablespoons of granulated sugar.
And the sugar is pretty straightforward,
so go ahead and add it to the other ingredients in the blender.
And finally, it's the star of the show, chocolate chips.
We'll need a quarter cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips.
And one really good tip I've learned is to use the mini size.
At least for me, the smaller size makes it easier to blend.
And it makes it easier to use these chocolate chips again
when we have them in one of the later steps.
But for now, just grab your quarter cup of chocolate chips and add them to your blender.
Then securely fasten the lid to your blender.
And no, that is not my purple nail polish.
My wife's nails look much better than mine.
Verify that the lid is securely fastened so we don't end up with a java chip explosion.
Now let's get to blending.
We use the frozen drink setting on our blender,
but you can also just make sure to blend for approximately one minute.
And now that our java chip frappuccino is blending, it's time for our quick goose fact.
Did you know that geese have more vertebrae in their necks than giraffes?
Geese have 24 and giraffes have only 7.
These geese sure do know how to hold their head up high.
And now, back to the frappuccino.
After approximately one minute, the frappuccino should be finished blending.
When you're ready, carefully add it to your serving glass.
But we're not done yet.
It's time to add the topping.
And for the java chip, that's the most important part.
We're going to begin by adding whipped cream,
but you can add any type of whipped topping that you like.
For me, I found that these cans are the easiest to use.
But you can add as much or as little as you want.
Then it's time to bring out the mini sized chocolate chips again.
You can sprinkle as many as you want on top of the whipped cream.
And then for the final touch, we're going to bring back the chocolate sauce again.
Some people say that this part is optional, but I disagree.
The chocolate sauce adds a lot.
Plus, it just makes it look cooler.
And when you've added the chocolate sauce to your heart's content,
your java chip frappuccino is ready to enjoy.
I'm excited for you.
This is such a fun frozen drink.
I'm honestly shocked that Starbucks pulled it from the menu.
But now that we can make this homemade version,
it means the java chip frappuccino will live on forever.
And now that you've finished this fun java chip,
you need to check out another version.
Our easy vanilla bean frappuccino.
I'll see you there.
