This National Cathedral is a special place, not just for those who are physically able to be here,
it's a special place for the nation and indeed for the globe. When I look at the history of this
cathedral, we have a responsibility to make sure that this place thrives into the future.
We make our buildings and then our buildings make us and that's true of the National Cathedral.
It's a place where the country in times of grief, in times of triumph, can come to grieve or can
come to remember. I think the cathedral's role as a spiritual home for the nation really evidences
itself in particularly poignant times and people turn to this place
to express what in so many ways you can't wrap words around, the inexpressible.
