They have renovated a former winemaker's home and turned it into a charming and comfortable holiday home for six. Givry is a beautiful wine village in Burgundy and the home is at walking distance from all shops and the market. Let us know what you liked most about this house!
Hello welcome to another home tour video I'm taking you to the wine
village of Givry in Burgundy where Fanny and Mérique have transformed
Transforming an old winemaker's house into a stunning holiday home
We've filmed this home tour in
French but you can enable subtitles in your preferred language via the YouTube settings
Hello welcome Thank you Here
is the
house we created and renovated six months ago
We're on an old winemaker's house and we've tried to preserve everything that was
A touch of authenticity as much as possible while seamlessly
integrating the comfort of a modern home for our travelers' ease
And we tried to keep as much as possible of what we had so the stones whic
Whether on the floor or on the walls they have that beautiful stone color of Burgundy
It feels like we're outside here
Because before it was outdoors
In fact historically this area was an outdoor space sheltered only by a roof
Handmade tin sheet
And there were two distinct sections
So it was a single dwelling since on this side there was the kitchen and on the other side
On that side was the bedroom and living room
That wall which rises much higher was and still is
a barn
And so it was used as storage for animals
And we chose to come together to create one single entity one single
dwelling
And we came up with this sunroom which was completely custom-designed
And here this is just a concrete slab
Exactly
So in fact there was already an existing slab but it was slightly tilted
So to turn it into a habitable space we decided to start from scratch
So we poured a concrete slab
For economy's sake the floor was not tiled with polished concrete
We simply coated the concrete with a concrete-specific sealer and a special concrete finish
So here we have a toilet
And so behind this door the ground-floor bathroom which is spacious and bright
Family bathroom where the choice was made to include a bathtub
And went with a slightly vintage style for the faucets and overall design
The mirror found on Le Bon Coin and the hand-painted stripe wall
This isn't wallpaper it's paint
And so if we continue the tour in this direction we reach the living area
So we chose to have a large living space with kitchen dining area and
living room so everyone can be together and people can easily interact
may come together
So we're now on the section that was a bedroom and a living room
Historically there was a partition at the staircase level here which was
removed to create one open space
Unfortunately we couldn't preserve the original floor because there were two
The space felt disjointed with two very different levels that
prevented the sense of unity and grandeur one expects in a room
They removed the ceilings since
there was a ceiling at the beam level on both sides
We demolished one side to maintain ceiling height and expose the beam
A hidden find beneath chunks of plaster
Since it had been both a living room and a bedroom there was actually a fireplace right here
They decided not to keep it and besides it wasn 't
a fireplace that was particularly beautiful
The Architect of France's Buildings required us to keep the structure on the roof however
The chimney is a traditional outdoor chimney to preserve the appearance
Therefore we had to keep part of the chimney
flue for the structural integrity of the building
So I had the idea
of actually using this space to incorporate the kitchen exhaust hood
We need to talk about the small collection of chairs
Listen it's a mix of chairs I found on Le Bon Coin at a thrift store
collected from my family since my uncle and aunt ran an old taver
where they hadn't kept much though a small amount of furniture still remained
So there are some chairs—I think these two
came from the old café And Grandma's table
And the table it's my grandmother's table exactly It was her
dining room table and it spent a few years with my parents
And now she's at my place
There too we tried to reveal a bit of the stone wall
After that the idea wasn't to
go too rustic or have stone everywhere
They wanted to preserve this blend of modern and traditional
elements Likewise the choice of furniture followed the same principle
There is some secondhand furniture but there is also new furniture
We also wanted to keep it slightly minimalist for travelers' comfort
so they feel comfortably at home without being
overwhelmed by trinkets and items that might not appeal to them
The stone wall was hidden behind layers of plaster
So we took care of revealing everything and then cleaning the stones
We had it stripped down and redone entirely by hand with lime mortar
There was a staircase in the house
It's the original staircase that has been preserved leading to a grain loft that no longer exists
ot exploited yet but we've decided to develop it
We came here to build a small attic room
It's very steeply pitched
Every nook and cranny is put to use
It's a small room more suited for children but also works well
for other travelers We
made sure to preserve the beam
Next on the second part of the house which was historically
the kitchen we completely redefined the function of the spaces
Here we have a first ground-floor bedroom a large double
room with a dressing area located at the back of the room
There we're leaning more toward a softer flower-filled decoration with a lovely pale pink
beige details and that small wallpaper we used to transform it into a library space
That's great it really defines this space
That's a good idea
And in the decorating choices always a bit alike there's
a clear desire to blend modern and traditional elements
So there's some vintage furniture The table and chairs
over there came from a wine bar that closed down near Beaune
Thus you can see the table number is always marked on the side
And kept for the anecdote if that's what we wanted
This modern blend of old and new a found object with a story alongside brand-new items
Since were in a ground-floor room facing the street we
really wanted to create a sense of intimacy despite that
So went with a double rod to accommodate a sheer curtain but still kept it dressed up
with linen curtains and truly framing these two large
windows that occupy nearly the entire wall space
On a staircase leading up to the third and final room on the floor
So it's important to note that since it was the kitchen
there was absolutely no access to the upper area
It was just a ceiling and the upper floor could only be
accessed from the street through a window facing the street
And in fact it was the hay
storage Yes that's it
So we reopened the space by tearing down all the
ceilings and now we have the last room under the eaves
But here we have a nice ceiling height
And that room has its bathroom hidden behind that door
Chinese-style curtain adapted onto a track system a rather modern setup
But there we're dealing with an old door that has been completely renovated and now has
was recovered and adapted to fit into this system which has standard dimensions
There we find the same tiles as on the ground floor
However for the rest the floor is polished concrete and the
right-side shower area is likewise finished in polished concrete
So we opted for a small en-suite bathroom attached to the bedroom
And we'really happy because we can have a
very large shower behind
the arch I love it
And yet there's space for a toilet
and a sink mounted on a wooden board
I bought the wall sconces just that piece
I purchased the ceramic washer with the conductor wire from a specialized website
And electricity
And this is a shelf bracket
I still think the result looks pretty nice
And in this case it's the illuminator that you won't find anywhere else
I also think the suspension is super cute
It's from Zara Home
Then there's the cellar
The secret room
I was going to say we've seen everything now
No we haven't seen everything
So there's still one more room left—the cellar ahead
And the floor was like that
No no
Well in that case there
was a… It's too beautiful I thought to myself
There was a great deal of work to be done
We had already dug down in fact we'd excavated at least 40 centimeters from the cellar floor
Entirely to regain a bit of elevation which was then covered with gravel
But then again the act of withdrawing created too great a discrepancy with the staircase
With the steps yes
So actually we built this platform using leftover stone
A piece of stone still partly embedded in the ground
since the ground isn't just soil but also many pebbles
So it creates a bit of an arrival All
the furniture in the room in this case
It's all secondhand furniture from within the family
That bench comes from the carpenter's workshop of my father's friend's father
It's the table that came from my aunt's mother's house
The chairs are ones that came from the café
The bar that was at my aunt's father's place—the bar—we had it demolished
And then all the barrels and decor from the pampa came from my cousin's wedding
Actually it was a winemaker's house
That's why
But like most traditional houses in the village
they're all built on cellars
The lighting—so this is a solution our craftsman suggested
to us He actually built the wooden structure using…
with pine
In reality he came to install LED strips on both sides
Thus they suddenly illuminate the vault and the light rebounds
afterward onto That's also really well done Yeah
So it creates a slightly dimmed atmosphere
There's no direct light yet it remains well-lit
You didn't show that
you were What is it
Wixsoft is an online platform that created the first label for hotel properties
