How to Chip from a Fluffy Lie

But here we are with a really difficult shot.
I'm only very close to the flag,
but I'm sitting down in a fluffy lie.
You'll see lots of amateurs hit
way too many different types of shots from here,
taking a really big long swing
and then decelerating through the shot
and chunking it, hitting it thin, whatever.
So I've got a couple of different variations for you today.
First of all, I'll probably show you the three-wood.
And what we're gonna do is basically having it like a putt.
The idea with the three-wood
is it's got just enough loft on it
to jump over this first bit of ugly grass we've got here
in front of us.
Obviously you can't putt it
because it's gonna jump and bounce around everywhere.
This is a great option.
Just basically holding it like a putter
and then just popping it through here.
And that rolled beautifully.
And not quite in.
So the other option I've got for you,
and some people who don't like chipping with a three-wood,
because sometimes chipping with this,
it gets a little bit springing off the face
and shoots out
and people don't have great distance control with it.
So you usually find some of the better players,
A-graders at your club or pros,
and definitely old guys like me,
before this shot was invented,
we used to blade it with the front half of our club.
So what we're trying to do
is we're trying to hit the ball right in the equator.
So basically holding it like a putter,
we're trying to hover the club just a little bit
because we want to hit it right in the middle of the ball,
not like every other shot
where we're hitting more of the bottom part of the ball.
So we just hold it like a putter
and then just pop it out of there.
And that's not too bad also.
So have an experiment with both types of shots
and you'll probably find this one here
will give you a more consistent feel off the face
and judging your speed will be a lot easier.
Although the bigger head certainly makes it easy to hit.
