'PROJECT VAULT'

President Trump on Monday announced the start of “Project Vault" -- a plan to deploy nearly 12 billion dollars to create a strategic reserve of rare earth elements. These minerals are essential to modern technology in our daily lives and to the military. The stockpile is meant to counter China’s dominance in critical minerals, which makes the supply chain highly vulnerable to disruption. Beijing has frequently leveraged its supply chain dominance against other nations in diplomatic and trade disputes. Joining us now is retired U-S Navy Captain Brent Sadler. He's a Senior Research Fellow for Naval Warfare and Advanced Technology at the Heritage Foundation, as well as a former pentagon official.
