The government is now implementing several proposals to streamline construction in Sweden
The construction process will become more standardized and transferable between municipalities for new buildings
It will also become easier to convert office buildings warehouses and basements into private homes to help alleviate the housing shortage
It will also make it easier for municipalities to quickly make decisions to build new prisons
It can be so complicated that a fully functional house could potentially be converted into an apartment building
The building regulations create loopholes that make it cheaper and more efficient to demolish a house and rebuild from scratch
Yes I think everyone agrees that this isn't reasonable
That's why we're now reviewing accessibility requirements also known as functional requirements
So if a property owner wishes to renovate a stairwell with accessible apartments
Otherwise the municipality shouldn't be allowed to require installing elevators in the other stairwells that aren't being renovated
Indeed we see that this could mean increased construction allowing apartments to be built on rooftops
I Sutteräng plan and all offices converted into apartments
When we need to make better use of the existing stock this is an important reform
Building correctional facilities in Sweden will become easier
How will this change look and why is it needed
In practice this means one can now apply the temporary legislation
After this change is implemented it will be possible—something that hasn't been feasible until now
since temporary legislation cannot be used for ongoing needs
The need must be temporary we'll adjust that right now
Thus the need may continue beyond the period covered by the temporary period
Well then we'll extend the temporary permit period from 15 to 20 years as well
The major change there will simply be bypassing the planning and building regulations
so that a new plan or new detailed plan doesn't have to be made
Actually skipping the need to create a new detailed plan for an area can save about two years
