In modern Kyrgyzstan, many Kyrgyz families still preserve elements of the traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, harmoniously integrated with modern economic and social conditions. This lifestyle revolves around seasonal movement: in summer, families ascend to the cool mountain valleys and high-altitude grasslands (jailoo), while in winter they return to the lower, warmer regions (kyshtak).

The core of the economy remains livestock farming – sheep, goats, cattle, and horses – providing milk, meat, wool, and supplemental income. In summer, families live in nomadic tents or temporary summer homes, maintaining a close connection with nature and honoring ancestral traditions. The nomadic tent is not merely a dwelling; it is a cultural symbol around which daily life, holidays, and customs are built.

However, modern times have brought its own adjustments: many families have permanent homes in rural villages, benefiting from roads, mobile phone services and technology, and participating in the market economy. Children attend school, and some adults work in the city or engage in business, combining their income with a seasonal life on the pastures.

Today, the semi-nomadic lifestyle is not only a means of survival but also an important part of the Kyrgyz cultural identity: it maintains a connection with nature, tradition, and community life while adapting to modern realities.
