Klobuchar Launches Campaign for Governor: 'Minnesota, We’ve Been Through a Lot'

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) announced she's running for Minnesota governor on Thursday, vowing to unify a state facing a series of high-profile challenges.

"Minnesota, we've been through a lot," Klobuchar said in her campaign launch video, citing President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration, the deaths of two Minnesota residents involving federal agents, the assassination of a state legislative leader, and a deadly school shooting—all within one year.

Klobuchar’s campaign launch comes just weeks after Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced he would not be seeking a third term in office. His decision to decline reelection followed widespread criticism of taxpayer-funded child care programs, although the governor has maintained that his administration has investigated, reduced, and prosecuted fraud.

Klobhuchar in her campaign launch video did not mention the Trump administration’s ongoing fraud investigations.

The allegations, among other high-profile crises, have thrust the state into the national spotlight. The Trump administration has publicly criticized local and state leaders for the alleged mismanagement.
