Hello everyone this is Teacher Mina Today I'd like to talk
about our Korean learning methods rather than a podcast
So I'd recommend turning on the subtitles and enjoying the video comfortably
Before we begin what do you find most challenging about studying Korean
When I'm teaching students I always ask them
What part is the most difficult When asked this people usually say listening is the hardest
But I think I kind of understand why that part is tricky
You know listening in Korean can be really tough right
What's the reason Why is it difficult Well if you don't
know it's bound to be hard So
let me explain the reason first
Korean speakers don't actually pronounce Korean the way
it's written I think the same is true for English as well
In English we write "I want to "
but we actually say it as "I wanna "
There's a slight difference between speaking and writing
Korean which is why listening can be naturally more challenging
For example if it says "It looks delicious "
when we usually learn Korean
It looks delicious We use this when we say it
out loud But how do Korean
speakers pronounce it
It looks delicious
It sounds like "gatayo "
That's why listening feels so difficult due to these differences
So how should I study
Let me carefully explain each of those methods to you step by step
First of all as I've mentioned in my previous
videos you should study something you genuinely enjoy
You should practice listening with things you enjoy
If you like dramas it's perfectly fine to listen to lots of them
Or if you like a particular celebrity you can
also study using their YouTube Shorts or videos
So pick one content you like
I think a slightly shorter range would better personally rather than a broader one
Because we'll be listening to that section repeatedly
So the second step is repeated listening
But the part I can't hear—it just won't come through no matter how many times I listen
So I check that section a bit more carefully while listening
And we watch it with Korean subtitles
That's when you can see why I didn't hear it
For example when he brought that person over earlier I couldn't hear it because he
pronounced "gatayo" as "gatayo " but oh I
already knew it was supposed to be "gatayo "
So that's how Koreans pronounce "kattaeyo "
That's how you learn it
That's how you learn to pronounce it correctly
For example this
time—oh I went shopping
recently
What was it this time
This time is it
That's why Koreans also pronounce it as "yo-bon-ae" this time
That's why it doesn't sound right
Why I didn't know
I didn’t know Koreans pronounced it that way
So while watching the kind of content we love
we check for these nuances
Next I watch it a second time with subtitles in my native language
This process helps me learn new expressions
There are expressions used more
when speaking than when
writing For example "not really" or "wasn't really "
We don’t use these expressions much when writing
But when we Koreans speak they’re actually used quite frequently
So this expression was a bit unfamiliar to me
Ah that's what it means
That's how you learn new expressions by comparing them with your native language
And if you want to go further and make these
expressions your own as I mentioned in my previous video
When you create countless
examples your own expression
emerges By consistently repeating this process
I am confident that your speaking abilities have
grown just as remarkably as your listening skills
What's difficult here Staying consistent is the
hardest part We don't have an environment where
we can focus solely on Korean
There are other studies to focus on other responsibilities to handle—our
lives are so busy It's simply hard to
manage everything with willpower alone
So I created a study for you
—a 20-Day Korean Shadowing
Study—covering the very processes I mentioned earlier
Listen repeatedly study new expressions and
pronunciation and practice shadowing as well
A program you can try for 20 consecutive days one day at a time
This study will run for a total of 20 days over four weeks Monday through Friday each week
From Monday to Thursday I'll be shadowing daily speech videos of Korean celebrities
You don't know which videos to shadow or which parts are
important or commonly used expressions among Koreans do you
I'll select them personally and send one by one from Monday
to Thursday and the videos will be uploaded
Korean script English script study materials and my lecture videos
And I'll be uploading three versions of a guide
to help you with your shadowing recordings
There are so many materials uploaded
So when you listen to the video first and say
"Oh I don't really understand "
Practice the pronunciations while following along with the Korean script I provided
And I practice expressions while following along with the English script
Among them the expressions I consider important are
I compiled the pronunciations into study materials and
along with them lecture videos have also been uploaded
That’s how you learn—by studying and then practicing
shading again and again There are three versions of shading
Half speed 1.75 times speed normal speed—that's the default speed
My guide recording is uploaded in three speeds
You can listen to that file and practice shadowing along with it
or play the link I provided at 0.5 0.75 or 1 times the normal speed
You're welcome to listen and try shading as well
And on Fridays
the parts you've shaded from Monday through Thursday
We'll have another session to review once more
Reviewing is truly important
If you only go through it once and move on you'll forget it
So on Friday we'll spend time reviewing
and truly making it my own expression
So I tried to create an environment where consistent effort became unavoidable
I’d like to help you develop a daily habit of studying
Or I want to truly study listening and speaking
And most importantly enjoyably
Those who'd like to enjoy studying in a fun way
through videos of their favorite celebrities
Many people have already applied so I'll
post the link in the pinned comment below
I think it would be great if we studied hard together
Yes today let's do listening practice and also work on speaking
We discussed how best to study Korean and
although you don't have to join my study group
Trying each of the methods I've mentioned one by one while studying
should definitely be helpful And
the most important thing for you is
You must study while enjoying yourself That's why you
should definitely study using entertaining content
Of course my podcast works too So let'
s try sharing some interesting content
And by listening carefully trying hard to catch unclear pronunciations
I hope this helps make learning Korean a bit easier a bit smoother
Shall we meet again next time
Don't study Korean Enjoy Korean with Mina
Thank you
Bye
