The appearance of Jesus Christ has been one of history’s most debated mysteries. For over 2,000 years, Christian art has depicted Jesus in countless ways — but do those familiar images of long blond hair, blue eyes, and tall features actually match what a first-century Jewish man from the Middle East would have looked like?

In this video, I investigate what Jesus may have looked like, based on historical speculation, archaeology, and biblical scholarship. First, I trace how Jesus’s image evolved through centuries of Christian art — from a young philosopher to the iconic bearded figure we recognize today. Then, I explore the historical and scientific data to reconstruct a new portrait of Jesus’s appearance.
