Raphael / Raffaello Sanzio: The Beautiful Gardener

This video introduces Raffaello Sanzio, who is more popularly known as Raphael, in the contexts of both the arc of his artistic career and the relationship of his aesthetic method with those of his fellow High Renaissance artists, with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti.

This work, which is known as La Belle Jardinière, depicts the Virgin Mary with Jesus Christ and John the Baptist. In both its devotional motif and its visual method, this work exemplifies the elegant gracefulness of Raphael’s art.
