President Donald Trump said that he's sending his border czar, Tom Homan, to Minnesota,
days after a border patrol fatally shot 37-year-old U.S. citizen Alex Pretty.
I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight.
He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there.
Tom is tough but fair and will report directly to me, he wrote in a social media post.
Trump's announcement after the January 24 shooting of Pretty,
which triggered large protests in the North Star State.
The killing of Pretty happened after another U.S. citizen,
37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, was fatally shot by an ICE agent during a confrontation.
Both deaths caused disputes between the federal government and state and local governments,
and between Republicans and Democrats, with each side promoting their own narratives.
According to the Trump administration officials,
about 3,400 arrests were made in the massive immigration crackdown known as
Operation Metro Surge, with approximately 3,000 active federal agents getting involved.
