GOLDFISH Aquarium Aquascape

Hey everybody, welcome back to the channel and today we're aquascaping this 29 gallon aquarium
for some goldfish. By the way, this rock pattern stuff is vinyl floor tiles. It's behind the glass
and you can't really see it very well on the finished product so I figured I'd just kind of
skim over it. The lighting on this tank is an Aquion OptiBright. The filter is a Marineland
Penguin PF40. I started the hardscape out with some round river rocks. This tank really went
through a lot of iterations. I started with wanting it to be a bare bottom and also the
hardscape layout was way different all the way up until the end so just kind of bear with me
because there'll be a lot of changes in this tank. However, something that stayed consistent
throughout the entire build was that I wanted the scape to be aesthetically pleasing but more
importantly be safe and interactive for the goldfish. Goldfish are really bumbling little guys
and they'll get themselves stuck and they'll knock things over and mess up scapes and stuff like that
so I wanted it to be simple, sturdy, but still allowing with a good amount of swim room.
This is where I began filling the tank with my first hardscape iteration
and as still a bare bottom aquarium.
This is when I realized something that I kind of already knew and that the rock pattern that
I had under the tank would literally not be visible at all once there was water in it.
This is because of the way that water turns glass into a mirror and so basically it just
looked like a shiny mirror at the bottom of the tank instead of a nice rock pattern.
I decided just to continue on with the scape and began adding plants. Nothing crazy here,
just some Anubias nana. At this point, I just wasn't really happy with the look of the scape
so I decided to start trying to fix it by adding a couple more rocks. I still wasn't
really feeling the look and I decided to start by covering up that mirror with some black sand.
Then I really went at it. I changed up the hardscape to not only improve swim room
but also make it look better in my paint.
