Experience one of the most beloved masterpieces of the orchestral repertoire: Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, conducted by the legendary Leonard Slatkin.

Composed in 1898–99, the work grew out of a simple theme Elgar improvised one evening at the piano. From this, he created a set of 14 variations, each portraying a person close to him – friends, family, and colleagues – with the final variation serving as a self-portrait.
Among these character sketches is the famous “Nimrod”, often performed on its own and cherished for its profound emotional depth. Together, the variations form a deeply personal, imaginative, and enduringly popular work that has captivated audiences for more than a century.

Sit back and enjoy this performance of Elgar’s Enigma Variations under the baton of Leonard Slatkin.
