The Bamboo is one of the 'Four Gentlemen' of Chinese Brush Painting.
The ‘Gentlemen Scholars' embraced Bamboo because it is known to yield and bend without breaking - even in the most violent wind storm. An important philosophical principle of life.
Painting bamboo is arguably one of the most empowering subjects one could paint,
and it can enchant you or it can frustrate you no end. Sometimes it does both. It takes a while
to get the rhythm of painting the stems and quite possibly of painting the entire subject.
One learns patience in painting bamboo, and I would say that a steady hand is also required.
So no wine drinking until you finish. No, there really is a striped bamboo.
Okay, I think that this will certainly give me enough structure for my leaves,
and painting bamboo leaves are the most relaxing part of a subject, but also very deliberate.
Land and take off, just land and take off, and this is a little tricky going up and back down
and you want all your leaves, oops, to not look like that.
We'll just say that was captured by the wind, but in the main you want them all to be nice and
straight, but I've noticed that in every painting there seems to be a whoops. There seems to be a
why did I do that when I meant to do that? So there you have it, my almost perfect bamboo painting.
