Welcome to the premiere episode of Unlocked with Oz: where elite athletes, entertainers, and celebrities put their minds to the test against world-class mentalist, Oz Pearlman.
In this first episode, Oz shows you the place he calls home, New York City. Go behind the scenes of his performance before meeting up with football GOATs–Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski. What begins as a casual hangout quickly turns into a full-blown, jaw-dropping reveal that leaves these NFL legends absolutely stunned.
That's the craziest ---- I've ever seen in my life.
We are about three minutes away from hitting the stage.
I like to cut it close sometimes.
Bag of tricks, let's go.
I'm Oz Perlman, otherwise known as Oz the Mentalist, and I read minds.
So I started as a magician as a teenager,
doing card tricks, sleight of hand, the normal things you would think of.
And I kind of evolved over time to mentalism,
which is a specialty within the world of magic.
It's not so much sleight of hand, it's now sleight of mind.
How could I know something you didn't even know?
She's like, how is he doing this?
I'm like, that's the show, that's the question.
A lot of kids get that magic set, you know, as a little kid.
And they play with the little, it gets lost, and then they move on.
But for me, I didn't move on.
I never moved on.
So as I kind of got bigger and better at what I did,
the numbers of people in the audience grew as well.
Who is he thinking of?
Who is he having dinner with?
Tell him.
President Teddy Roosevelt.
Show everybody!
I feel like when the pressure's biggest, I deliver the strongest.
No greater joy than coming home sweet home,
and just kind of like, poof, I never take it for granted.
If I lived in Manhattan for 17 years, then too many kids, no such thing,
enough kids, but too many kids to fit in a Manhattan apartment,
moved out to Brooklyn, and like the slightly slower pace,
I went to the University of Michigan, graduated,
and then moved to New York City to work on Wall Street.
That is where I've lived more than half my life.
And I love it here.
I'm a city boy now.
Good Midwesterner at my core, but now a hardened city boy as well.
These are my famous meatballs.
These are legit.
My kids love to use.
Shouldn't be using my hands, but screw it.
Don't let my wife see this.
What mentalism is, is magic without props.
Where I'm no longer trying to fool your eyes,
I'm trying to fool your mind and entertain you and create memorable moments.
I'm not proud of it, but I was a clown once or twice.
I needed the money really bad.
And then I started doing strolling magic at restaurants
where I was barely as tall as the bar.
That's where I learned how to approach people,
how to learn what they were thinking when they met me,
or whether they were kind of resistant, how to break through that resistance.
Sales training 101.
You'd be shocked how pivotal that was for the rest of my life,
both in and out of the world of magic and mentalism.
I guess when it rains, it pours.
I have been so lucky, so blessed beyond measure.
Things I never could have dreamed of.
There are people that I've definitely been nervous around.
That just means I get all the more focused.
How do you do something that they've never seen before?
And if you can deliver right there in that moment,
fourth quarter, a minute left, Super Bowl, you're down by six.
My man Tom Brady knows how to do it.
That's what I'm looking to do within my sport,
in my craft.
Imagine I tell you, you have a remote control,
and Gronk, you rewind through your life, and you stop any time.
You're a kid, you're a teenager, and you think of anybody.
Yep.
Can you picture this person right now?
Yes.
Is there any way in the world I can know who this is?
I mean, I haven't even seen them in at least 10 years.
Think of the first name, think of the last name.
Okay.
Count the number of letters in this guy's first name, just to yourself.
Four letters, is it four letters?
Uh, yes.
I watched your eyes.
It's four.
Four letters, see them going back and forth.
First letter, second letter, third letter, fourth letter.
You always got to watch when to stop.
Think of any one of those four letters.
You thought of third letter, didn't you?
Yeah.
I did.
And you know what?
You didn't even need to do it, but look at the hat,
repping the brand, FD.
D, you're thinking of the letter D.
Dude's name is Andy.
Fellow member of the gym.
Andy Stein, is it Andy Stein?
Whoa.
Who?
What the ****?
Yes.
You're mental.
And what's the story with it?
What?
What's the story with it?
All right, stand up.
Stand up, big man.
This is incredible.
That you're already telling me to stand up is already part of the story.
Hold up.
Look this way at me.
You and Andy Stein, why are you looking up and down?
Shorter, dude.
Come see this.
Real grunge.
Swear to God.
This isn't set up.
This is nothing.
You walked in here.
You didn't know I was going to be here.
And you just called me out.
You go, I'm thinking of some kid from high school.
Yes, high school.
And now, what story popped in your head right when you thought of him?
We were at a party up in an apartment complex,
and he challenged me to go one-on-one versus him.
He used to be on the football team.
While we were on the football team together, he said he could take me one-on-one.
One-v-one, huh?
I said, let's do it.
Let's do it.
And then we went one-versus-one, put our hands down,
and I think I sent him through the wall.
I think you sent him through a wall too, my man.
So what are you reading in his mind?
There's some technology here.
It's like some Rayman ----.
That's amazing.
How?
How is that possible?
Julie, you already even come in now.
I haven't seen the kid in over 10 years.
Like, this was when I was 19, 20 years old.
Who am I?
You were 18.
18 years old?
Holy ----, that's crazy.
Shout out to Andy.
So I track where your mind goes.
The same way that you watch game tape.
I'm doing game tape of your brain.
Grab one.
Same deal.
I'm putting this here.
Here's the game.
Okay.
Football.
Okay.
Let's put money on this.
Screw it.
We need to make this fun.
Let's put some money on the line.
All right.
When was the last time you went to your ATM, to the bank?
I *******...
I don't...
Brock knows ATM pin code.
Is it four numbers?
You gotta sit down.
It's four numbers?
No, it's not.
It's more than that.
Oh, man.
Is there...
That's too much.
Is there a four-digit code used for things?
I have a pin code.
Don't you have something like that?
Yeah.
Would he know it?
No.
Okay.
It's four numbers?
Yeah.
Think of that code.
Okay.
And imagine, gentlemen, that right now a football player walks in this room,
but not someone currently playing.
Too easy.
Watch.
I could watch your patterns.
Somebody that used to play ball.
We're writing down their name?
Yep.
First and last name.
Hold close to your body once you're done.
Craziest thing.
All three of us in sync.
Because, Tom, turn it around.
Who did you pick?
Larry Fitzgerald.
And, Bronk, you also had.
Show us.
What's the deal, Bronk?
Eric Dickerson?
Eric Dickerson.
I don't think anything got messed up.
Tom, think of the first number of that code.
Yeah.
Think of the second number.
Similar reaction.
Same two numbers, aren't they?
Yeah.
A one and a one, isn't it?
And then the next numbers.
Look at me.
Two, nine.
One, one, two, nine is your code.
Hold up.
Tom, do you know Larry Fitzgerald's jersey number?
Eleven.
Do you know Eric Dickerson's jersey number?
Twenty-nine.
One, one, two, nine.
Bro, that's the craziest ---- I've ever seen in my life.
I can't handle this.
We needed you around when we were playing.
That's right.
Why were you not?
I tried to think of different receivers and I was like,
all right, Fitzy, bring it in.
No, literally, that's the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life.
If you would have told me any single one of these things
two years ago was going to happen,
I would have looked you in the eyes and said,
you're lying.
There's no way.
So you got to dream big, make it happen.
